This is sysadmin fascism. It is not you alone that decides who is to be trusted and who's not, business has also a word to say. You are supposed to do your best to work with database and application owners to manage risks not to impose your vision.

Also, may I remind you the not so few cases in which a trusted sysadmin locked down networks and systems and denied legitimate users access ?

I was not aware of any application development targeted for Linux desktops. Like many of us here, I was strongly convinced Linux desktop exists only in an endless stream of patronizing and tasteless jokes so now you come and tell us that you or someone else are actually developing for Linux ?

Sadly, the population of Linux users is still not increasing and I doubt it will ever do. We're the same number we were a couple of years ago. Not that I feel bad about it or lonely. You're right

There are alternatives like VirtualBox or VMware with a virtual disposable Windows machine or even better, VMware Player with and Internet browsing appliance. Or at a minimum, install a copy of Firefox portable with no plugins, disable Javascript and you can browse anywhere on the net.
