1st rule of Krav Maga...

Defence against guns, knives and baseball bats? I learnt the following rules for dealing with such;

Guns;

1. Run Away

2. If you can't do 1, give up

3. If you can't do 2, accept you're probably going to die and have a go

Knives;

1. Run Away

2. If you can't do 1, give up

3. If you can't do 2, accept you're probably going to get badly hurt, and have a go

Baseball bats;

1. Run away

2. etc. etc.

We practised running away a lot.

Bear in a woods

A bear and a rabbit are in the woods having a crap. The bear says to the rabbit "Oi, does crap stick to your fur?" The rabbit replies "No sir, crap doesn't stick to my fur"

So the bear wipes his arse with the rabbit.

Blame 'em all

Having some experience of dealing with beaurocrats (state, semi-state, utlities and big finance houses) in several countries, and EDS in Australia too, come to think of it, I'm pretty sure the blame is 70% beaurocrats changing specs after every meeting, and 30% EDS selling over-ambitious plans to IT-ignorant beaurocrats and letting teh beaurocrats generate a lot of nice expensive change requests because the original spec was way off what's actually required.

"Oh, we need a button so that if we click on Soldier A, and then hit the button, we can see all the other soldiers near Soldier A, and then apply that pay-rate to all of them..."

"Of course, no problem, 800 hours at £600 per hour..."

As for those who say no-one cares about what pay Soldier A is getting, come off it - if I could identify an operation in which the SBS (for example) was involved, then check the pay of Royal Marines and find out who's getting all the various combat allowances, I could identify say 100 Royal Marines, their families, and then we'll see how efficient the Special Forces are when their friends and family are getting bumped off at home.

Where the fsk have you been? Menezes did not have any clue he was the subject of a police operation, he grabbed a freaking paper and ran to catch the train which was about to depart, as about 6 million people do every day in London. He was surrounded by 3 survellience officers. When CO19 arrived at full tilt screaming "Police", he stood up to face them, was bodily restrained by a survellience officer who, and was promptly shot 8 times in the fcking HEAD, once in the shoulder, and 3 other shots missed. From 12 inches.

Here in Sicily I use UMTS all the time over a pay-as-you-go phone. I get 100 hours (unlimited AFAIK) with Vodaphone for Eur50.

So it's only in Ireland and the UK that Vodafone rip their customers off (£1 for the first 15Mb, and £2/Mb after???? WTF?)

One-Click, anyone?

This seems to me to be the mirror of one-click. If you can describe a process, you can patent it, right? The actual code doesn't matter, it's the IDEA that's important.

So let's say Mr. A finds that a packet which says "ACBD" breaks open a system, then you can you not patent "A prcoess to examine a packet to check for the existance of string "ABCD" and appropriate responses if found..."

You don't need code, you don't need to reverse engineer anything, and you haven't done anything illegal. By default you have added to the knowledge of the system (by finding that ABCD breaks it, which was previously unknown), there's no prior art and it's a technical advancment.

Excuse me, but doesn't two-factor authentication require two of the following;

Something you have

Something you know

Something you are

???

This is NOT two-factor authentication, as you only need to have the card. If it requested the PIN and the pass-code, then that'd be something, but you aren't allowed to use your PIN online (the bank's terms of service forbid you disclosing the PIN to anyone else!)
