I haven't seen the Met map but if everywhere is (mean) average then nothing can be below it. If any areas are above average then I'd agree it looks a bit fishy.

I completely agree with you. God seems to stand simply for everything not understood. If humans are around long enough to understand everything then perhaps religious types might admit defeat. However the prospect seems unlikely as the sun and, by extension, the earth has a limited shelf life. And so to bed.

No, I wasn't calling Adam a monkey. I was calling him an ape, though that's splitting hairs as much as you did. I well understand how evolution/natural selection/adaptive radiation works. My point was simply how the story could be interpreted in support of these scientific ideas just as much as against them. The assertion that Adam and Eve had no knowledge of good and evil (concepts readily understood by humans) suggests they were something other than human prior to eating the fruit. The act of eating stands as a metaphor for whatever mutations made the difference between humanity and its immediate predecessor. As a hardworking atheist I find this sort of observation pretty useful.

I suggest you read a rather excellent novel called Nineteen Eighty-Four. It's by a chap called Eric Blair but he used the pen name of George Orwell.

As there is no written constitution or bill of rights and English law develops by act of parliament and legal precedent, I think it reasonable to assume that, since freedom of speech has not been specifically outlawed by either, we do have it for now. However, I concede that the current inhabitants of London Reptile House do seem intent on abolishing it.

...and almost the only thing we MythTV users have been lacking in the UK up to now. Currently we're stuck with XMLTV which is fine when it works, but frequently breaks. Hopefully the Myth developers will be willing and able to use the EPG soon. We are also now able to get Channel 4 FTA so all in all...see icon.

Driving licenses require different tests for different vehicle classes. Do you propose a similar system based on some aspect of the equipment being used for net access? Would that be hardware? Operating system? Browser? Email client? Something else?
What if I build my own system or write my own software? Would the knowledge required to do this exempt me from any such testing or would everything I built and wrote have to go through some sort of 'networthiness' test? This all sounds like a bureaucrat's wet dream but I don't think the public or the ISPs would wear it.

Communications received from the USA are often responded to with a witty appraisal of the linguistic deficiences of our former colonial subjects. The loss of the UK top level domain might be seen to excuse them, thus rendering the replies of your writers, seeming a little hypocritical, rather less potent. I would certainly regret the loss of such amusing paragraphs.
