Microsoft cries foul over UK gaming deal blocker but it's hard to feel sorry for them

David 138

MS saved us from Bethesda! That company was awful. Let's face it Activision isn't a nice company either.

I love the Linux desktop, but that doesn't mean I don't see its problems all too well

David 138

Its too awkward for 99% of users which is why it only has 1%, but i feel thats how the users like it. OSX and Android are essentially polishing a usability turd. Users hate WIndows but they despise Linux.

Apple: You can't sue us for slowing down your iPhones because you, er, invited us into, uh, your home... we can explain

David 138

This must be why the new apple office has no walls. Contractor came in and just knocked everything down.

Game over for Google: Fortnite snubs Play Store, keeps its 30%, sparks security fears

David 138

"There are two reasons for what we're doing. First, we want to have a direct relationship with our customers wherever we can

I think they actually meant google takes 30% and google takes 30%. Updates will be a pain in the arse there is no reason to use to use their site. Like the rubbish unreal installer. Its all about the cash.

Why Google won't break a sweat about EU ruling

David 138

Look at all those wonderful alternatives insight.....Oh wait

I want one that works. Lets not overlook the fact that Google forcing manufacturers to not fill phones with crapware has done wonders. I love my phone restoring in no time. I like consistency. Most variants are just abandon ware with a poor user experience at best, those that arn't such as FireOS should be.

Android is now very popular because you know what you are getting when you buy it.

Apple: Our stores are your 'town square' and a $1,000 iPhone is your 'future'

David 138

Apple stores always remind me of pebble dashed council houses. Ugly, Grey and full of cheap furniture and overpriced Tech. So does this mean that the new town centre will be like their shared gardens? Overgrown and full off weeds, a knackers sofa and some car parts?

Mazda and Toyota join forces on Linux-based connected car platform

David 138

Re: 3 years of supported apps?

If car manufacturers where capable of producing a decent system it would have already been done. They just produce half backed attempts and support nothing. The never get updated, they never really work with your phone that will.

Brit uni blabs students' confidential information to 298 undergrads

Re: Email lists

Later versions of outlook say how many people are in the list. But it wouldn't matter people would just yes, yes, yes, yes, oops it anyway. Everything is vulnerable to stupidity.

The information should have been encrypted.

When we said don't link to the article, Google, we meant DON'T LINK TO THE ARTICLE!

David 138

Re: Not so easy...

So I should be able to take down anything with the same name as me if i deem it to be negative?

Having a database that google can link to seems to be the issue here. I wonder if anyone has done a take down request for that?

FCC's Pai: I am going to kill net neutrality in US

David 138

Well done America :P

It seems if you dont like corruption in politics the quickest way to get rid of it is remove the politics and elect the corruption.

New iPad revealed. Big price cut is main feature

David 138

I need a new 7 inch tablet and a sub £300 32gb mini would have been a good option. Its not worth that much money to watch the odd movie. Will stick with android, and hope for a new Nexus 7 before mine implodes.

Magic Leap sued for sex discrimination … by woman it hired to stamp out sex discrimination

David 138

One of the advertising videos on their site (In the section with the whale) is of a solar system on a desk. However it looks like the person taking the video is far more interested in the pretty woman behind :P I found that funny after reading this article.

Munich may dump Linux for Windows

David 138

Re: The thing about Linux Desktop

Wasn't there a very high return on Linux boxes when they started selling them on the highstreet?

People don't like change and moving from Windows to Linux is a kick in the nuts. Its horrible to get used to. You also have to learn all new programs as most wont run on Linux. For a small fee the user can stick with windows and be happy. That is why Linux doesn't sell.

You also have to:

retrain Staff to use the OS

Retrain staff to use the Open office or some half baked option

Retrain other companies when office wont open the files that came from that software, or they look like crap.

Hire more expensive staff to maintain it.

Custom build all of your software because no one supports it on the desktop.

It goes on and on. No one produces software for it, no knows how to use it, no one wants the hassle of learning how to use it to save a tiny cost in the grand scale of things.

Adblock Plus blocks Facebook block of Adblock Plus block of Facebook block of Adblock Plus block of Facebook ads

David 138

They should just block the user not the add blocker that would solve the issue pretty quickly.

Facebook to forcefeed you web ads, whether you like it or not: Ad blocker? Get the Zuck out!

David 138

You know that the internet is optional? You guys can go back to writing your own content on A4 paper? Or you could start a movement so that everyone pays for access to sites!!! whats that you dont want to pay? People blocking ads will mean less people use them which will mean more garbage ads and less content. the ads most people hate are sites that no one would want to advertise on or providers desperate for revenue. By blocking ads surely your just making this worse? And to those who say "If i have to see ads i'll go somewhere else" You chose to use an ad blocker rather than avoid a site so i doubt that.

Windows 10 grabs 22 per cent desktop market share in a year

David 138

Re: Great Table

What kind of tech person still uses XP on the internet? Or at all?

22% in a year isnt bad for a free OS. Linux is 20 years old and still has almost no interest for people as an everyday driver. Im not sure "Its so secure if you know what your doing" and "All windows users are retards" is working as a sales pitch.

I dont think most people really care that Microsoft take usage statistics because we give worse away to tescos and google. But we do get better services because of this.

Windows 10 still free, even the Anniversary Update, if you're crass

David 138

Are the people dodging nagware the same people who where complaining about eol on Windows XP the other year :P

What's Brexit? How Tech UK tore up its plans after June 23

David 138

At least we will still be able to trade with 3rd world countries and potential enemies :P I dont know about you but i have been trying to get cheap bollywood films for years. Now is our chance!!! Now we can open trade deals with china to get some really cheap steel into the country too.

'We shall overcome' net neutrality, sing Euro telcos in the key of 5Gs

David 138

Good time to nationalise the network in the UK to one giant shared beast with 100% coverage. Screw the mobile operators and their lazy approach they already screw their customers on Data costs

Linux letting go: 32-bit builds on the way out

David 138

Re: Not surprising

by old you mean EXTREMELY old 64bit chips have been more or less standard for a decade. I would be hard pressed to find a CPU that wasnt 64bit compatible. Christ you could pick a 64bit pos laptop up for peanuts!

'I urge everyone to fight back' – woman wins $10k from Microsoft over Windows 10 misery

David 138

Windows 7 is a dog but i hate Windows 8. I quite enjoy Windows 10 after its short learning curve. They only thing that bothers me is that im not sure how to role it out in business when it might completely change next week.

Tech firms reel from Leave's Brexit win

David 138

Re: Really?

We will probably end up back in Europe with a "Trade Deal" lots of restrictions and no power to tell them to bugger off. If we had waited a couple of years we would have probably ended up with the same result except we would have been up front rather than in the boot.

Don’t let the Barmy Brexiteers wreck #digital #europe

David 138

Well its all down to these people now thank god for a referendum: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36496745

Disk death: Three-quarters of PCs will run SSDs by 2020

David 138

I'm sure they were saying there is very little in it between enterprise and consumer reliability. SSDs are alot better than they used to be and i cant stand a using a computer without one. If you buy a computer nowadays without one you should be shot.

Samsung: Don't install Windows 10. REALLY

David 138

I think it depends on what bargain basement parts have been fitted to the machine. I had a Lenovo with an old intel wireless card. Had to mod the fecking bios to install a different card as they locked it down. Now Windows 10 runs like a dream. I would imagine Samsungs problem is they used cheap parts and their 2 man team for software updates for the entire company are a little over worked.

One ad-free day: Three UK to block adverts across network in June

David 138

Is this the start of subscription internet access? Netflix style? Or even worse micro transactions. People need to get paid and if you are too cheap to pay then piss off. If you dont like adverts then just stop using the internet.

5% of drivers want Nigel Farage to be their in-car robo butler

David 138

wtf is a kilometre everything is in miles in the UK. We drive on the other side of the road so we can stab you in the face with a sword with our best arm! And the reason we have roundabouts and traffic lights is we are too rude and inconsiderate to wait for someone else turn! However unlike Americans when we see someone in need we do help. We dont just shoot them, hit them with the bible or throw them in a volcano if your tom cruise :P

The case for ethical ad-blocking

David 138

Re: View from inside

You could enable the adverts and stop clicking on the penis enlargement ads :P

But seriously why is everyone complaining about Adverts on a site which appears to be supported by adverts?

David 138

Re: When is ad-blocking ethical?

I guess its also their site so they wont show it to you in that case :P Obviously what you want is premium level internet access for a fee per month. Google have already trialled it but people are just too tight to pay for services. People gota get paid!.

The worst in advertising usually comes from porn, piracy, copy cat sites and facebook. So you could avoid those. People should at least consider supporting sites such as theregister because you are too tight to pay per month for it.

Turn it off to support the sites you enjoy so you dont ruin it for everyone!! Tight ass people like yourself have already brought Micro Transactions upon mobile games, lets not do the same for the rest of the internet.

Not OK, Google! FTC urged to thrust antitrust probe into Android

David 138

Re: "Freezing out third-party apps"

Ad blockers are no better than piracy for free websites!! You either pay for it or you get adverts. Having said that maybe anti virus solutions should start blocking ad networks that are either intrusive, carry malware or are facebook. There should be something more central to kill off bad add networks or force them to reform.

Brits still not happy about commercial companies using their healthcare data

David 138

Sharing medical data for medical research should be compulsory but the data should never be sold to anyone else.

Apple must help Feds unlock San Bernardino killer's iPhone – judge

David 138

If someone stole you phone they would probably just wipe it and the encrypted data. Encryption gives most people little or no useful protection in this case. However it does benefit criminals. Apple are just protecting their marketing not their customers.

Adblock Plus blocked from attending ad industry talkfest

David 138

Re: Keep on with the autoplaying auto-expanding video, sound, and light-show free-for-all

Targeted adds arnt really that bad are they? Apples news, music, assistance and mapping all suck because they cant draw from this information. Its a small price to pay for much better service if you ask me as you cant get a personal service without it.

Unless your up to no good. In which case you should go with Apple.

Microsoft herds biz users to Windows 10 by denying support for Win 7 and 8 on new CPUs

David 138

Re: The more they push

Windows 10 is far from a great OS but its fine to use at the moment. Another year or so of updates and it should be one of the better OS MS have shat out. Either way its still better than Linux and OSX for most task. Especially if you game.

No escape: Microsoft injects 'Get Windows 10' nagware into biz PCs

David 138

Re: I am not a fucking product.

Your right lets not buy Windows we shall use.................Nope nothing comes to mind.

"What about Linux" - its free but nothing supports it not even its own community half the time. Its just abandon ware on a grand scale. Its great if you want to be messing around with the OS all the time, but id much rather be blowing stuff up on Just Cause 3.

What about Mac OSX - I'm sure fisher price do a cheaper product with more use.

Next year's Windows 10 auto-upgrade is MSFT's worst idea since Vista

David 138

Linux

Will anyone ever switch to Linux. every update to anything in windows or osx gets this same reaction and no one ever switches because Linux is a waste of space for most people. the learning curve is vertical and no software supports it. That combined with the fact that their community is mostly unhelpful prick's who look down on everyone because they use a free office alternative to create files no one can open. Yes we all love free stuff but most things are free for a reason.

Apple 1 goes on sale, expected to fetch £300,000 to £500,000

David 138

Amazing

An Apple of that age.....and still just as functional as the modern Apple Mac.

Windows 10 climbs to 3.55 per cent market share, Win 8.1 dips

David 138

Re: Would you believe Windows XP market share went UP last week?

Who would install XP willingly or under torture? There is no hardware worth running that would run better on XP.

10 is a very good OS so far. Not work ready quite yet but very close. Its an excellent home OS with a few settings tweaked and an SSD for good measure.

Lenovo topples Apple from PC summit by declining less slowly

David 138

Lenovo wont last their stuff is too unreliable.

On the other hand i do think the Apple bubble is bursting.

Virtually no one is using Apple Music even though it is utterly free

David 138

Re: Virtually no one?

Hi haven't heard a single good review of it. It offers nothing over other services and the music is really tinny.

Windows 10 in head-on crash with Nvidia drivers as world watches launch

David 138

What a surprise, Nvidia and an awful drivers dont work. Did they ever?

Got an Android phone? SMASH IT with a hammer – and do it NOW

David 138

Re: Service pack

Half the time is abandoned by the manufacturer. I don't think anyone should buy a phone that isn't a Nexus variant if you want a good experience with android. Cyanogen and all that bollocks can sod off as well, half the time they seem like they are about to fragment. Its a die hard few, or people with abandoned phones that turn to it.

Windows 10 on Mobile under the scope: Flaws, confusion, and going nowhere fast

David 138

I quite like 10, runs smoothly. Touch wood all of our apps from W7 work fine at the moment and i havent seen any real issues with it for quite a while. It just has the benefits of W8 with a user interface that doest suck.

David 138

Re: What should Microsoft's enterprise clients do now?

Why do people even mention Linux as if its a viable option for 99% of people unless you have a MASSIVE budget for custom development and support.

Time for a brutal TELLY-OFF: Android TV versus Firefox OS

David 138

After the bile they pump out called a browser they need to get something right.

Pray for AMD

David 138

You skipped a few intel chips to make them seem better?

Intel

Pentium - You added Athlon so why not :P

Duel Core - That means 2 processors taped together as they hadnt mastered cores

Celeron - This means duel or quad processor that could be newer or older than an atom, but is it better or worse than atom?

Atom - Low powered Celeron? who knows, they run cold and stick them in crap tablets

i3 - good

i5 - better

i7 - best

AMD

Athlon - Defunct brand

FX4 - 4 Core

FX6 - 6 Core - This probably gets confusing as intel dont really do more than quad :P

FX8 - 8 core

A8 - Low power good

A10 - Low power better

FX<insert random number here> - ?

David 138

Re: My main gaming rig is AMD...

Radeon is the same as calling something g-force. I in no way could tell you what the best nVidia card is :P Intel chipsets are still retarded, and they have the processor names Atom, i3, i5, i7, Xeon, celeron and a few other crazy ones, but then which one has multithreding, how many cores? Its retarded. Especially the Xeons.

We tried using Windows 10 for real work and ... oh, the horror

David 138

Re: Are you ready? Probably not.

I have found it pretty good so far. I like it.

Apple Music: First three months for free? We lasted less than 3 hours

David 138

I think i lasted less than 3 hours in my trial, Its Ok to navigate, the Radio is crap. its no better or worse than Google Music which i get cheaper.

Unlucky, Palmer: Facebook's going to BAN Oculus pr0n apps

David 138
