Well, that was never the plan. They make a distinction between reading the header in real time and the body (apparently never). And claim they can do this for all past, current and future protocols. Over encrypted links.

Why ? A torrent download isn't a lost viewing (they probably wouldn't have gone to see it anyway). What it will do is generate merchandise sales.
It's the same as music and any other pre-digital industry; the incumbents needs to go DRM-free and pay-once, ASAP, or loose out, like they did when Amazon started selling MP3.

I got the wife one of these for Xmas and they love it !
As well as the on-device store, it shows as a USB disk on Linux for loading DRM free books, and their engineers even unofficially support their main library/store application on Linux too !

The touchpad is almost all well known COTS hardware, you just need to take the drivers from elsewhere.
No need. Android 4 already boots via CynagonMod on the Touchpad with everything apart from the camera, charging and the GPU acceleration, which are to come.
This is just icing on the cake.
I would still love to know what HP is actually up to. Why spend money on all this if their not doing hardware any more ?

Too little, too late ? They might spend a fortune with a company, who will in return put it up-front, but if it sucks they'll still become luke warm to the idea of free money soon enough.
The point is the trade off between the expected increase in returns and support costs vs. the the time and effort to produce a locked loader.
Different companies decide on different sides of the line, but I'll only buy from the freedom side.
