Vapourware

So, any real kit, or just some 'might look like this one day' 3D renders ?

Tom Chiverton 1

Isn't that

Isn't that just verified by visa (of annoying looks-like-a-MiM-attack fame) in a new body then ?

Tom Chiverton 1
Linux

Does it run Linux ?

Tom Chiverton 1
WTF?

All well and good, but sadly they've broken hibernate support for everyone because a few people have issues for a short time: http://goo.gl/PD20Z :-(

Tom Chiverton 1
Thumb Up

Never mind that, where did you get the pass holder ?

Re: Not just Barclaycard

So ring them and do it over the phone then.

It's not DNS related, as anyone with half a ping could verify.

It's just not answering over HTTP(S).

"It will not be looking into emails in real-time"

Well, that was never the plan. They make a distinction between reading the header in real time and the body (apparently never). And claim they can do this for all past, current and future protocols. Over encrypted links.

You might want to quote the same prices in good old fashion UK pounds from Adobe's UK site.

Then convert those to dollars.

Then write up a piece about the rip off of charging more to send the bytes a little further...

"small independent film-makers (without powerful and expensive lawyers) must spend their time playing whack-a-mole, filing takedowns "

Why ? A torrent download isn't a lost viewing (they probably wouldn't have gone to see it anyway). What it will do is generate merchandise sales.

It's the same as music and any other pre-digital industry; the incumbents needs to go DRM-free and pay-once, ASAP, or loose out, like they did when Amazon started selling MP3.

Re: Is it hackable ?

Push your content to a single long HTML page, and use the Kobo's web browser to pick it up as you leave.

Tom Chiverton 1
Meh

So, still clear as very thick sticky black mud then ? Helpful.

Tom Chiverton 1
Thumb Up

I got the wife one of these for Xmas and they love it !

As well as the on-device store, it shows as a USB disk on Linux for loading DRM free books, and their engineers even unofficially support their main library/store application on Linux too !

Re: definition to broad?

And fridges. And electricity meters. It's so stupid ...

Re: I DONT GET IT

DOSBox.

Re: Almost a shame it wasn't April Fools eh?

It doesn't matter if you have much or anything to hide. It's about it being none of the government's business unless and until you break the law.

Does Linux boot on that ? Have you actually held one of these or just reprinted a press release ?

"with Sky+. A single tap on the navpad always resulted in the screen indicator jumping two places rather than one"

So it's totally broken when talking to Sky+ then. Wont be buying.

Tom Chiverton 1
WTF?

ho ho ho !

Either someone was just fired, or MS just stuffed an envelope of cash through the door with a note saying 'please with a cherry on top'.

For that they crapped on the corpse of Palm and killed the Touchpad ?

Ejits.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0042B9U8Q/ref=cm_cr_pr_btm_helpful?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0 doesn't make it sound as good as you did... still, worth a punt I reckon ?

There's a man-in-the-loop. So the man.

Panic over.

About 30% of retail sites I come across wont even believe you can have a + in the left hand side, so there is much work to do.

Could you stick a recent LiveCD in and lets us know if it works ??

Tom Chiverton 1

The fix seems easy; never increase the TTL of a cached record...

Re: @Tom Chiverton 1 - I'm afraid it may be impossible

>Reselling FOSS does not bring any money

Of course not, do a Red Hat (Dead Rat in El Reg speak ?) and sell services/training on top...

Trish should encourage a move to Free/Open software if she is so concerned then.

Re: Re: So when

What ? Of course Skype is proprietary. It's just a binary blob, even on linux.

Tom Chiverton 1

Did you read the article?

It comes with a native version of Office, no WinRT needed

Tom Chiverton 1

Re: Re: I wonder...

if you were still a 'droid, you'd see that most popular apps now explain why they want each permission. Mostly it's because "this broad permission is the only way to get the one thing I need"

Tom Chiverton 1

Never. Energy storage density is the problem, just like in a phone.

Tom Chiverton 1
Linux

What's the Linux support like ? I heard these 'double video card' jobs are still a pain of mess ? Does the trackpad work for instance, with full multi-touch goodness ?

Tom Chiverton 1

Mobile FireFox is certainly planning to support Flash as long as your device does...

Planet ?

We've just dragged our selves out of the gravity well trap, and you want to go sit in another one ?

Pah !

To the asteroids !

I've always added a spot of tip-ex to one. Easy to find by feel.

"s3.amazonaws.com hosted by wwf.panda.org"

Really ? Really ? Maybe not... :-)

Tom Chiverton 1

The touchpad is almost all well known COTS hardware, you just need to take the drivers from elsewhere.

Tom Chiverton 1

No need. Android 4 already boots via CynagonMod on the Touchpad with everything apart from the camera, charging and the GPU acceleration, which are to come.

This is just icing on the cake.

I would still love to know what HP is actually up to. Why spend money on all this if their not doing hardware any more ?

Tom Chiverton 1

And has the UK given our rights away ?

Tom Chiverton 1

Their searched for in the application process, and it's rejected if it's too similar.

Tom Chiverton 1

Well, there aren't many cross platform virii, and as the vector was probably some idiot using a USB stick at home and work, this should help.

That's the sort of mission that gave us the broken STS design, then the US chickened out and never actually did a less-than-one-orbit snatch and grab.

Sigh.

If the makers made it cost less than the cost of a new sat nav to update it, that might help things...

Apparently http://www.youronlinechoices.com/uk/your-ad-choices can't contact Google as well as a bunch of others.

Does it work for anyone else?

Too little, too late ? They might spend a fortune with a company, who will in return put it up-front, but if it sucks they'll still become luke warm to the idea of free money soon enough.

Tom Chiverton 1
WTF?

The point is the trade off between the expected increase in returns and support costs vs. the the time and effort to produce a locked loader.

Different companies decide on different sides of the line, but I'll only buy from the freedom side.

Please stop writing '802.11n' if you mean '802.11b/g/n'

So how much of that can they really deliver ?
