Re: Alternatives
"Uh... wasn't that a Woody Allen flick that was done that way specifically as a satire? Not that I'd put it past them to ignore the original movie, but that's a hell of a lot more work than doing it the usual way, and I find it difficult to believe that anybody whose job it was to finance the dubbing said, "I don't care if it costs five times as much; I want the lips to match!"" -- There may be a Woody Allen flick of that nature, but, this also happened less-satirically to Fong Sai Yuk (sometimes simply know as "The Legend" starring Jet Li)
First rule of Kung-Fu? Cheat!
Re: Alternatives
" (I'm German, everything gets localized here)" -- The US and the UK tend to 'localize' content too. I remember re-watching 'The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk' on Sky (having already watched the original language version some years prior) and the translators had taken the rather unusual step of changing the entire plot-line and dialogue so that the English translation lip-synced with the actors speaking in Chinese. Mind Blown.

"I still really wish that Microsoft had gone the OpenGL route rather than the (frequent) abomination that is DirectX. It's not that DirectX is inheritently bad ..."
If Microsoft had used OpenGL without giving it the old EEE treatment. Most games developers would simply be able to port their games directly to Linux boxes where users would see some favourable improvements in game performance (statements backed up by tests performed by Steam/valve engineers) . From a gaming perspective, Microsoft would not be the be-all-and-end-all of the PC gaming world; Monopoly over.
Re: Too little, too late.
I think the important factor is that the machine hadn't seen the internet in a few days and it is likely that the machine's Kerberos ticket had expired. Does anyone know if the Live infrastructure is actually using Kerberos AND are Win 8 machines essentially joined to Microsoft's "Live" domain?
Re: Too little, too late.
I had a user the other day that could not log in to her Windows 8 laptop because she was not connected to the internet, her user is a live.com user and her kerberos ticket had expired. She had to log in to connect the internet but could not log in until the internet was connected ... Microsoft Strikes again!

"If a seller misrepresents a product, that is misselling, which is illegal, and they have to accept the product back and provide a full refund." -- They took the product back and refunded him his deposit, but, the customer did not cancel the payment plan he had entered into with HFC Bank. The bank ultimately is at fault for trying to uphold a contract for goods that were returned.

ISPs' pirate-choking blocking measures ARE effective – music body
I can download as much as I like on my broadband connection, P2P is not throttled, but, there just isn't anything available to download that I don't already have or want. Sounds more like an 11% drop in material worth pirating rather than an 11% drop in piracy.
BTW, I purchased a considerable amount of music that I enjoy listening to regularly via Amazon on CD which in some cases also gives you access to MP3 cloud hosted versions of the CDs you buy.
Then some git nicked my car stereo ... so, fuck listening to music.
It's EE vs Vodafone: 'How good is my signal' study descends into network bunfight
Vodafone are pants, their coverage map is inaccurate, I'm supposed to get H+ around my office area and all I can get is E which cannot even load a google search page (before searching). I have given up caring about mobile data and see it as this imaginary thing that people talk about but no-one gets to see or use.

I think the pluggable form factor is really just to show off how self-contained the package is rather than being an actual feature. Although, perhaps in the future we will be able to supplement a device with Edison via a modified SD card reader.

Re: This time Microsoft has gone too far
"The stupidest thing they EVER did was kill the $50 Win 7 upgrade as for the first time I had actually seen piracy drop like a stone, after the price went back up? " -- Piracy works in $MS's favour. If Piracy was hurting their bottom line; they would actually do something to prevent it.

Re: Expensive
"Battlefield 4 is in a whole different league to these games though." -- Yeah, the bottom of the division. Leave it to EA to ruin a great franchise. EA rushed DICE (so the story goes) to market with BF4 approx 6 months earlier than they were ready. On the whole, BF4 is the most unpolished, poorly implemented and virtually untested game I have /*ever*/ played, including my own simple endeavours recreating Space Invaders et all for my Android phone.
EDIT: "Have they fixed the sound bug in BF4 yet?" -- Sort of, I believe they may have partially cured the loss of sound on Hainan Resort, in particular when in a vehicle, BUT, they have now introduced that same sound bug into other game modes, without vehicles. I hear (lol) TDM is particularly affected by this.
