There is a MASSIVE difference with the use described in the article versus the UK ISPs telling you that a site is blocked. The difference is that the UK is being transparent and you are not being duped into viewing something that you had not requested. In fact, it is out in the open that they were going to hijack your request as it was mandated by court orders which are in the public domain. You EXPECT this redirect to happen.

Having malware injected into a legitimate request isn't remotely comparable to your example. It's a nefarious, underhand and downright unethical practise.

The uni aren't "jumping up and down" about the UK because those activities are not unethical.

BBC iPlayer is specifically for UK TV licence subscribers as the content held therein is not even available in the Republic of Ireland, yet BBC has always been broadcast there.

DRM etc is a load of shit but I can see why they would want to do this. I don't agree with it.

Maybe Rimini are the REASON metalink was so bloody slow! It has improved somewhat since classic metalink has retired. Again, just my opinion!

I back Oracle on this one (not an employee) but I can see how Rimini have managed to garner a share of the market as Oracle Support is sometimes appallingly unreactive. Personally, I have got a ton of support and development guides on an external HDD just because I can't be arsed to keep logging in and searching for them!

Will be keeping a beady eye on this if I can. It might set a precedent!

I (to some extent) agree with all of you who say "you must have something to hide" when it comes to denouncing TOTAL privacy.

However, TOR is used in China to circumvent the Great (fire)Wall of China so that free-thinking citizens can have free speech and access to sites which apparently are "violating public morality and harming the physical and mental health of youth". IMO, all of you who discourage this kind of activity and the development of systems such as TOR are no better than the commie dictating tosspots over in China.

Anyone who thinks that privacy is not inherent as a basic human right should walk around wearing cling-film, have no password on your email and leave your front doors unlocked with an "Open All Hours" sign hanging on it.
