This reminds me of a former co-worker who thought he knew "something" about computers. I worked for USPS and part of my duties was to maintain the computers in the office, to the limit I was allowed to do by regulations. This particular co-worker had a problem with one of the computer printers (each machine had three) at his window, so he decided to just HOT SWAP it with another computer. Big mistake, it blew the fuse inside the box, which I was not allowed to open (rules) I had to shut down another computer, swap the box and printer and bring his back up (10 minutes because it runs Windows NT4.0, and at that time the system was more than 10 years old, now pushing 30 years old and still in use). Then call the help desk and have them send out the contractor from 1.5 hours away to replace the fuse.

Took about three hours to get his box back up and running. A few weeks later, he did the same damn thing, hot swapped the printer with one from another system. Took four hours for the contractor to get there, and the boss decided to just pull his @$$ off the window and have him put mail in the P O BOXES until then. He was PISSED because he actually had to do some physical labor. Personally, I would have suspended him for a week instead, let him go play his piano for 168 hours instead.

Sounds like somebody went to Worst Buy here in the states... One time I needed a printer cable and didn't want to drive 20 miles to Fry's, so I went to Worst Buy a couple of miles away... Cost me five times as much at Worst Buy... never again. And Fry's cable was actually better quality.

My grandfather was a dairyman in rural Iowa many years ago. He was partners with another man who provided the capital and my grandfather did the hard work. When the partner died, his son summarily kicked my grandfather and his family off the farm because there was no written contract and the son claimed ALL the cattle and left my grandfather nearly destitute... As a result, my father dropped out of school after the eighth grade, along with his older brothers, to support their parents.

Actually, THAT's not true either... (usually you get the Government you deserve)... you get the government the one percent have bought for a year or two... Trouble is, they refuse to stay bought and the one percent has to keep spending money to keep them bought.

The local bird cage liner in Napa Valley publishes the list of CONVICTED drunk drivers, after their trial... they don't publish the list of people stopped for DUI, although some who were arrested after an accident caused by their DUI may have their names in the paper as "arrested" along with a list of the various charges. Nowadays, those charges will include "child endangerment" if there were any children in the car, so the local plod are going for maximum punishment/embarassment.

The bird cage liner publishes their list the first Monday of every month... and the list usually has 80-100 names, including their city/country of residence. Because Napa Valley is well known for wines, generally a quarter of the ones named are from outside the area. Hispanic males make up 40-50% of the list every month.

But then fuel tanks have been known to explode, too... the one that comes immediately to mind is the early model Ford Pintos...

I'm not sure if there are any in other parts of the country, but several limousine companies in the SF Bay Area are using Tesla Model S in daily limousine service, mostly for airport transfers and wine tours. If they're good for 260 miles, that would be two round trips from Napa to SFO without recharging, although the tail end of the second run could be a problem.

Doesn't matter if the car swerves itself or the blockhead behind the wheel swerves it... the end result will still be the same. At least when there's a driver, IF he remembers what he's been told about having a deer in front of him, he WON'T swerve, and just run down Bambi... Swerving hard WILL cause the car to roll... hitting the deer, even at speed, might not, just destroy the front end of the car. When I hit that little whitetail deer at 60 MPH, I didn't have time to swerve, and just hit it square, and did $7,000 damage to the car... but my wife and I walked away with no injuries. One of the pick 'em up trucks that refused to stop to help us managed to load up his freezer out of season.

I know of a lawyer, specializing mostly in bankruptcy and immigration cases, who HAS offshored a goodly portion of his data entry to the Philippines. The woman who was his office manager here is now managing the entire operation in the Philippines. All the data entry work is done in Manila, then emailed to the office in the SF Bay Area, where it is proofread, then filed in the appropriate court, by email. Works for him.

Gotta pretend that's a glass of wine... but it must be wine o'clock in the Philippines...

Part of the reason the union bakers at Hostess refused to take ANOTHER pay and benefits cut was because top management was awarding themselves big raises and bonuses at about the same time as asking the workers to make another sacrifice... Every time the top management changed, the new managers somehow found money for big raises and shortly thereafter for big bonuses for the executives... but when it came time for negotiations with the workers cried poor mouth... not a good recipe.

It's WINE O'CLOCK somewhere, especially in Napa Valley... where the wine auction raised $16,000,000 last weekend.

You realize, of course, that outside of Chicago and Los Angeles, there are relatively few 12 lane freeways... But the six lane Eastshore Freeway (I-80) between Richmond and the San Francisco Bay Bridge makes up for some of the lack... especially at rush hour.

Hundreds of federal and state and local government agencies.,. The USPS probably buys about 200,000 copies of MS Office for all of its computer systems in the administrative and post offices nationwide... Of course, they may not upgrade it for 3-5 years, until the next rollout of computer systems which will be even more locked down than the current ones.

You just have to know where to look to find decent wine in the US... Start you tour in little ol' Napa Valley. Napa Valley has over 400 wineries, some very small to some VERY LARGE... Small ones tend to be the better wines, but even the big boys have some decent fermented grape juice. And do they love to experiment... whether with grapes or specific vineyards, or blending a wine with some small doses of different varietals to produce some fantastic wines. Some are available ONLY at the winery, some are available ONLY by mail order. Some, like Silver Oak Cellars, sell out at the release party, and they only have enough left to sample and sell at the winery, and if you're lucky, you can find their releases at a few high-end purveyors, or maybe your favorite restaurant, like The French Laundry. One of the hardest to get is Screaming Eagle... They offer no tours or tastings at the winery (it's not even listed in the phone book, and only a few lucky limousine drivers know where the winery is located)... the only way you can get Screaming Eagle is by mail order, IF you're on the mailing list, and there's a LONG waiting list to get on the mailing list... of course they also sell out every year, and I have never been able to get a bottle, even a $800 (or more) each.

Paris, 'cause if I had her money, I could afford to get a bottle of Screaming Eagle, or maybe Michael Mondavi's Spellbound, at about $40 a bottle.

When I was in high school, my parents' telephone number was the same as the local branch of Bank of America except for the prefix... We were constantly getting wrong numbers, and finally my father started responding to the wrong numbers with "Bank of XXXXX, we accept deposits but not withdrawals"... A few months later, Bank of America changed their number, and went to a central switchboard for the entire SF Bay Area... end of wrong numbers.
