Whaddaya mean, No refund? But I paid in Bitcoins! Oh I see...

This isn't hard

Treating bitcoin as a foreign currency is *exactly* how it should work. You pay 0.01BTC and then get refunded 0.01BTC.

Just because the BTC exchange rate is massively volatile right now doesn't mean the retailer/credit card/bank should worry about *your* FX exposure, in the same way they don't worry about it now for more regular currencies.

WTF?

Break free?

Have we already forgotten that Mr Jobs never wanted native apps when iOS launched and said HTML5 apps were the future?

Of course the power and money of a native app eco-system soon put that idea out to pasture, but still...

So how long is the sleep then?

What I didn't get from the article is how long does my WiFi radio sleep between calls on average vs this new method?

Are we talking millisecond-level intervals of swithcing power to the rado on and off? Just curious...

Re:Hotspot Wi-Fi requires bolt-on

I can't understand how they're still allowed to get away with this. Now the iPhone tariffs have capped data limits why the f**k does it matter what device I use to download that amount?

RE: Only the worry..

Actually what'll happen is the same that's happened in the real financial markets - the more/faster algorithms finding arb opportunites, the faster the odds will be lengthened/shortened to reflect the current bets and the overall effect is the market becomes levelled and less arb opportunities exist.

On the stock markets the guys there are chasing fractions of pennies thousands of times over to generate any kind of return.

Irony, we've heard of it...

I find it deeply amsuing that Microsoft spent so many years trying to intertwine the browser and OS only to get slapped with an anti-trust lawsuit and now the big focus of all browser is to intertwine browser and OS...

Just me? Ok...

Chrome OS?

Hmm, could this be the solution to printing from ChromeOS (especially as Google appear to be involved to enable apps and docs tie-ins)? Maybe it's just a happy coincidence.

Either way I also worry about the direct-spam, effect. It was bad enough with fax machine spewing out pages of crap at work back in the day, I don't want my home printer doing the same!

Thumb Up

Excellent, I have some questions...

Good article, nice and concise.

Two questions I have

1) How does this compare to Freesat's HD offering?

2) Have any of the manufacturers hinted at a likely price for the set top boxes?

Data use

"...more likely you'll hit Vodafone's limit when using the 3G dongle built into your laptop"

You'd have hoped that the unit could recognise data connections and route them straight out the braodband pipe rather the via Vodafone's VPN. I presume from this comment that this isn't the case?

Less than 20secs remaining on my download of 3.1 when I clicked on this article.

Think I may hold off for a week or so and see how this pans out....

Sounds like you need some CAD assistance for this launch system.
