Shill! Is that really necessary?
My point is simply if you want regular security updates then you need a Google device as they update each month.
As for the "Windows update style" updates I mean regular security updates which I'm sure we all agree is important. I'm not talking about being forced to eat OS updates like Windows update has become merely that all devices are secured from the OS vendor.
Strangely the flagships don't but last year's Moto G5 offered all that and the performance is pretty good.
My Moto Z Play offers it all except the replaceable battery but the battery life is so good that I still get 2 days heavy use now after 18 months.
As we all know, these days battery life if the top of everyone's list as phones now do everything well. The manufacturers continue to ignore this as it's the only good way to force people to update.
Totally. Replaceable battery and expandable storage, also really good Lineage OS support. Mine does everything I need and runs upto date Nougat 7.2.
We have reached peak phone for the majority of users, I suspect if you grabbed an S9 case and popped S5 hardware in a vast majority of users wouldn't even notice.
Agreed. I was very exited about the Nexus 6, it's a little on the big side but other than that it was nearly the ideal phone for me BUT wht the insane pixel density? A decent 1080p screen would have given it far better battery life, this is the one feature that everyone wants, whay the bloody obsession with ever thinner phones every year, just keep it the same and add a bigger battery = happy punters.
I got fed up with the performance of my S3 the other day and nearly bought a new phone, so I decided to try Cyanogenmod before shelling out. The Cyanogenmod installer took 10 minutes and was literally a point and click installer from Windows. It installed a new fast ROM and a copy of Clockworkmod as a recovery option.
Since then I've enjoyed upto date Android and the speed of the phone is amazing, it's as fast as when I got it nearly 2 years ago if not faster. I'm really impressed, have a read and give it a whirl.

I haven't received a leaflet but fortunately found out by word of mouth. I've had a letter back from my GP confirming that my data will not be uploaded.
I simply don't like the fact that once it has been uploaded you can't have it removed you can only ask for a half ar$ed anonymization. Oh and the fact that I wasn't asked permission for ''My personal'' medical records to be sold off (I know technically they haven't been sold off.......yet!!!).
Just tried the Bluebox tool on a HTC Desire S and it says unpatched, also tried on a Galaxy Note 2 which it says is patched, the Note 2 did download an update as soon as I unboxed it.
My Galaxy S3 did actually download a small patch from Vodafone quite recently, unfortunately it's being repaired at the moment as I dropped it and am unable to test.

Sold my old laptop before going away for a while and picked up an NC10 when I got back. I used it for two years as my main laptop at home, I picked up an external DVD drive but hardly ever use it. It's been great for internet, email, iPlayer, listening to music etc its also got great battery life and fits easily in my backpack and unlike an ipad it's actually usefull for doing some work and typing (don't get me wrong the ipad has it's uses).
What a great versatile device :)
As I explained I do get decent battery life usually but I turned off features to get even more. At the end of the day why have wi-fi and 3G running in my pocket using up juice anyway when with one touch I can activate it and use it to check emails and browse the internet when I need it. Also saves a bit on my leccy bill :)
Just bought one for £350 and I'm very impressed. Went to a festival last week and it lasted for a full two days and nights, I turned off 3G and turned it on when I wanted to check email, internet etc, used the camera a bit and made a couple of calls. In general I have it syncing email, facebook etc every hour and use wifi when at home, I work 12 hour shifts and when I get back there's always at least 50% battery left.
This is far from the nightmare stories that I heard about with most smart phones and the original desire. Other than the need for a shutter button to operate the camera I've not got any complaints.

of course in an OS as widely used as Windows and with so many available devices a few people in millions having a problem with a couple of devices is a pretty good success rate ;) I'm sure all 20 desktop linux users will have something to say about that, i'm one of them but it appears i'm the only one that isn't delusional.
