Activist coders aim to deafen Phorm with white noise

Chris
Paris Hilton

Ha ha ha

If enough people use this program then it will suck up extra bandwidth costing the ISPs that deploy this Phorm of spyware even more money than they will find it worth to screw their own customers who have been paying them in good faith.

Serves them right.

Paris, because she also likes sucking up people's bandwidth.

Antigua is exempt from American Copyrights

Another interesting and amusing thing worth noting is that because of the USA's disgraceful behaviour with regards to online gambling, which is just one example of its typically characteristic selfish and pig-headed attitude towards the rest of the world, the island of Antigua has been granted immunity from prosecution through the WTO if it chooses to ignore any USA copyrights. So, even if Hollywood has a tantrum and demands that SlySoft stops producing this software, there will be absolutely no moral or legal imperative for them to do so!

What would be even more amusing is if it transpires that any counterfeited goods such as DVD movies and music CDs can be sold at bargain prices to other countries with the blessing of the WTO in order to punish what Americans like to refer to as "God's Country" for its despicable hypocracy.

The USA ecomony is already going down the pan, not least because of Corporate American greed. What goes around comes around.

This could be interesting to watch. All I need now is some popcorn.

Google takes a swipe at OOXML

Chris
Stop

OOXML acceptance would be mean business as usual for Microsoft.

Microsoft has no intention of making their own Office suite comply with OOXML, but they will wave a piece of paper in the faces of legislators and pretend that it does. Then, when 'average computer user' tries to use a competing product to open a 'Word Document', it won't work and they will assume that the alternative software is no good. Then they will think "Hmm, maybe I will stick with Microsoft products after all, because at least that way I can be sure that I won't get this problem again". And they would be right.

By deliberately failing to adhere to its own 'standard' Microsoft will be able to maintain its monopoly. Furthermore, if it is the case that the ISO standardisation process is shown to be so easily corruptable by Microsoft's bribery and dirty tricks so as to pass such a clearly broken closed format, then it's credibility and reputation as a respected standardisation body would be seriously damaged, possibly even eventually requiring its replacement with one that has better safeguards against such corruption.

Any of the more malleable ISO officials should probably consider any such possibilites before passing their off-shore bank account details to Microsoft's Accounts/Slush-Fund department.

Tony Bliar is a trator and should face war crimes

We invaded Iraq and countless innocent people died for NO GOOD REASON because Tony Blair deceived parliament and betrayed the trust of the British people by making out that battlefield weapons were actually weapons of mass distruction. As Lord Butler himself pointed out, Tony Blair claimed that the infamous intelligence dossier (which had already been spun out of proportion as a result of 10 downing street interference) actually said something that it did NOT say. Tony Blair told the nation at the dispatch box that the intelligence was extensive, detailed and authoritative that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that could be used against us within 45 minutes, when in actuality the very intelligence that he was referring to was thin and patchy that there were even battlefield weapons. Even if Saddam Hussein had such weapons, there was no indication that he was spontaniously intending to use them (unlike us).

Apart from making the poor Iraqi people suffer even more, the officially illegal invasion of Iraq has only served to pour vast quantities of oil upon the flame of Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. It is almost as though Tony Blair and George Bush actually wanted to create a new threat in a post cold war era in order to satisfy one of the requirements of the neo-conservative political ideology. Or maybe SOMEONE simply had to pay for 9/11 even if they had nothing to do with it (I note that George Bush's oil buddy Osama is still free). Either way, we are all less safe as a result.

Most people go to prison for needlessly killing lots of innocent people, but Tony Blair was offerred a Congressional Medal of Honor. As far as I am concerned, Tony Blair is a deluded murderer who didn't even have the decency to admit that he was wrong. People like him make me ashamed to be a member of the human race.

Redmond puts key Vista update on ice

Chris
Paris Hilton

As a Microsoft shareholder...

My unbiased view is that everyone should buy two copies of the excellent Microsoft Vista so that if you scratch the CD or change some hardware causing your license to be revoked then you can easily continue your Vista experience by using the other license! Using Vista is patriotic because it supports capitalism and allows the govournment to reduce terrorism. Conversely, using Open Source Software makes it much more difficult to hide code that sends personal information and internet usage habits to security agencies. Besides, communist countries use Open Source Software so there must be something wrong with it.

Lastly, election campaign donations will only get us so far. Therefore please, vote the monopoly-friendly Republicans back in next year, otherwise we may end up with something akin to a level playing field which would be disasterous! I have been financially benefitting from Microsoft's ability to screw the software industry and their users for years and I have become accustomed to a certain standard of living. I believe that a change in the status quo would be a breach of my human rights.

Paris Hilton icon selected because she is the embodiment of why the gap between the rich and poor should continue to widen.

Major Linux security glitch lets hackers in at Claranet

Proof that Open Source Software is DANGEROUS

This is exactly why closed-source proprietory software like Microsoft Windows is safer, because hackers don't even need to reverse engineer the cancer that is open source code in order to see how it works.

And before any of you Linux fanboi losers sad enough to flame me suggest that I am a Microsoft employee, I am not. I can only count on two hands the number of times I have visited their HQ.

War On Terror

Unfortunately, it sounds like muslim women should now be subjected to random strip searching and maybe eventually even more intrusive probing in order to protect the _real_ innocent people. If they resist then they are probably terrorist sympathizers anyway. After all, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear.

It is incomprehennsibe why these people hate what America stands for. I guess that's what makes them pure evil and why George Bush's christian crusade must continue.

Boeing sympathises with Al-Qaeda

Since taking a pen-knife onto one of their planes is now more difficult than it used to be following 9/11 as a result of heightened airport security, it seems that Boeing has endeavoured to resolve this dilemma so that a terrorist doesn't even need to get out of their passenger seat in order to hijack/sabotage one of their aircraft any more.

Maybe all that will be required is a lap-top computer to hack into the on-board network, seize control of the aircraft and fly it into the nearest highly populated building. Or perhaps simply by causing the network that manages the entertainment system (and conveniently the aircraft's navigation controls) to crash, the plane will obligingly drop like a stone from the sky somewhere in the vicinity of the White House.

Good job Boeing! After 9/11 it's nice to know that you take security seriously.

Now RIAA says copying your own CDs is illegal

Chris
Happy

The RIAA has a legal right to your money

If you scratch your original CD and don't buy a new one (possibly because you have a backup) then it is correct that you should be considered a thief. It is the long established legal right of the music industry to repeatedly charge for the same music in different media formats, otherwise what is the point of DRM?

It is unacceptable for ordinary people of lowly berth, namely most people reading this, to ignore the laws that the RIAA has lobbied for at great expense. The law is the law and common rabble like you have a moral obligation to obey it.

Wake up and smell the coffee, idiots! Long may America continue to be ruled by the rich and powerful!

British teens score a C in international science poll

Chris
Stop

Hey, leave the poor kids alone!

British teens all deserve 'A' grades because they are SUPERSTARS, each and every one of them! Who cares if they can't read, write or count? They don't. That's what spell checkers and calculators are for, right?

British examining boards are in competition with each other to make their courses as easy as possible whilst maintaining the veneer of keeping with the standards of years gone by. However, with the sciences and other more intellectually rigorous subjects, this can be a little more difficult to do without it being obvious.

Trouble is, if they don't, then kids will simply take the easier subjects like 'Drama' and 'Media Studies' for example.

Amusingly, despite the fact that children are coming out of primary schools without basic reading, writing or arithmetic, they are still getting fantastic marks at GCSE level. What gives?

Such children will steadfastly refute the assertion that their exams (or is it only course work now?) are easier on the basis that they were the most difficult GCSEs that they had ever done, along with statements like "Dat maffs exam was real ard, I ad to add and everyfink!"

IBM to shove ads onto DVDs

Chris
Thumb Up

Avoiding adverts is a criminal offense

What you inconsiderate idiots need to understand is that people like myself who work in the honourable profession of advertising and marketing need to provide for their families. How are we supposed to do that when people like you have the presumption to selfishly turn off your TV sets simply because of one or two harmless commercials?

I have indeed noted with growing disappointment the way that some ungrateful consumers are, at considerable expense I might add, migrating from television to their own DVD libraries SPECIFICALLY in order to avoid adverts! The only reason why they are doing this is because it is an option that we have so far ALLOWED them to take advantage of. I guess that's what the industry gets for trusting consumers. Either way, this behaviour is morally unacceptable as it impacts upon the rights of content suppliers to squeeze more money out of their established and hard won government sanctioned business models.

As you may expect, we have observed these trends in the target population with growing concern. Fortunately, existing DVD technology already accommodates our legal rights to insert compulsory commercials at multiple points throughout ordinary DVD movies along with the appropriate flags to disable fast-forwarding past them. Needless to say, a lot of time and money goes into the creation of commercials and it is important that as many people as possible benefit from them. If this were to mean that some of a movie needed to be edited to make space for these commercials then I believe that the product would still represent very good value for money.

I may need to check with one of my lawyer friends, but as I understand it any attempt to circumvent this technology is a breach of existing anti copying legislation such as the handy DMCA. If this is not the case then it can always be rectified with sufficient lobbying. Furthermore, once such principles are enshrined in law, then the population with be under a moral obligation to adhere to them.

God, I love my job.

Red Hat, Novell sued for patent infringment

Chris

Microsoft simply wants fair competition

It appears that Microsoft's absurd intellectual property agreement with short-sighted companies like Novell, being part of its machiavellian divide and rule tactics amongst the Linux community, has in no way stopped Microsoft from playing the same drawn out legal games and dirty tricks FUD campaigns by proxy just as it is widely believed to have done so through SCO. I expect that Novell must feel somewhat chagrined if it is indeed the case that it paid for the privilege of not being able to sue Microsoft whilst Microsoft has enough money to be able to pay another company, possibly fabricated for the purpose, to sue companies Novell. Although Red Hat is also being pursued, at least it has been sensible enough not to do deals with the devil.

Windows XP repair disk kills automatic updates

Chris

Microsoft's argument is weak and doesn't hold water

"Microsoft eventually explained that the forced update concerned Windows Update itself, and as such, was installed on machines that were configured to keep track of new patches, even if the user had opted not to have them automatically applied. Failure to patch Windows Update would prevent it from working reliably, Microsoft said."

Why didn't Microsoft simply present this as an optional update explaining that its installation would be necessary to receive further updates? At least that way people would have had control over what was running on their machines. The fact that this forced update actually broke an importaint tool that people use to repair their machines and to feel that they have some measure of control over their own property only makes it worse.

But hey, the people who have been affected by this should probably count themselves lucky that they haven't been suckered into "upgrading" from Windows XP yet. If this article had been about Windows Vista then I could easily imagine that my quote from the article would have been something along the lines of the following:

"Microsoft eventually explained that the forced update concerned Windows Vista itself, and as such, was installed on machines that were configured to keep track of user activities, even if the user had opted not to have them automatically applied. Failure to patch Windows Vista would prevent it from working reliably, Microsoft said."

RE Idiot "Journalist" - "dovecot"

To Webster Phreaky who said 'Apparently this Idiot "journalist" either never passed 5th grade spelling or doesn't know how to use a dictionary. So what exeactly is the "dovecot" that the body was found in??'

It would appear that you are in no position to judge who has passed 5th grade as you do not seem to have done so yourself! Since you consider yourself to be such an authority on our English language, perhaps you would be so kind as to explain what the word "exeactly" means? I'm sure that we would all like to know!

Or perhaps it was your impulsive eagerness to point out the spelling error of another with such venomous condescension that you completely undermined your own bloated sense of superiority by failing to demonstrate the care necessary (that most people would have the sense to show after launching such an attack) to avoid mis-spelling an even more commonplace word!

Oh and by-the-way, as far as being able to use dictionaries is concerned, according to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary the word 'dovecote' also has the valid alternative spelling of 'dovecot', so the very basis of your snide and vulgar criticism was in fact wrong in the first place! Perhaps you will demonstrate at least some redeeming characteristic by having the decency to grace the 'Idiot "journalist"' as you put it with an apology?

Failing that, thank you for so wonderfully offering yourself up as such a richly deserving object of worldwide ridicule.

Bwahahahaha!

Rape

As I recall, in order to satiate the lust of the croud outside of Lot's home who were calling for him to send out the angels that were in male human form that had come to warn Lot of the imminent destruction of the city, at least one of the women who was sent out to the croud was repeatedly raped over and over and over again until she expired. I always found this to be horrific and very baffling that this could have been acceptable or even necessary in the eyes of God.
