Orange customer clobbered with SIX-FIGURE phone bill

NX1977

Re: IT?

I've complained to Tmobile about high data use and hot handset. Disabling mobile data stops it dead.

Watch the data indicator and it's clear the handset is continually switching between Tmobile and orange masts naturally sending a data packet to log on each time.

I'm certain they are fully aware of this but they blamed my phone which doesn't do it with a Tesco SIM!

Nokia chief Elop: 'Android? Hey, anything's possible!'

MWC 2013 is just around the corner....

If nokia went to android I'm certain most of their loyal previous customers would return.

Nokia make very good hardware, they've just had a history or bad software to run on them. The reason people are still not convinced is windows mobile. It's holding them back from again being a contender and fighting HTC, Samsung and Apple who their customer base flocked to in the dying days of symbian (circa N96)

Bull or has apple all over it?

Either this firm is cashing in before they're left with Samsung trade ins they're blocked from selling

Or

Given this is a day after Koh pencilled in the product banning case for December rather than the september Apple wanted, you have to wonder if there is a connection to help inflict immediate damage via the media propaganda machine......

Jury awards Apple $1bn damages in Samsung patent case

WTF?

Re: The real loser here

All companies copy others ideas. Cars all have the same tech, tvs, computers etc etc. Don't see Ford and say Toyota in every possible court in the world because the other fitted satnav or abs brakes, rounded their dash etc etc.

Good companies take pleasure in the kudos something was their idea and move on to creating the next "must have".

The majority of patents in this case should never have been allowed to be filed due to "prior art". Patents are only for new and unique ideas.

NX1977
WTF?

Re: The real loser here

Apple are using their lawyers rather than innovate and up their game.

Most tech companies in the past simply innovate when competitors sell their own versions of say TV with EPG, built in media ports, smart/Internet etc.

So why can't apple innovate their way to increasing their market share rather than the lawyers do it for them?

Says to me that it's because they can't innovate better than those who have been doing it for a lot longer.

Hardly surprising

A judge and jury with no clue of patent law. A US firm in a US court v. A non US company.

Then there's Koh herself, who's comments from the off presented the notion of bias. How this was allowed to carry on amazes me.

And that's before we get to Microsoft & HP inventing tablets, rounded corners on phones back in the 90's and Apple using technologies in their phones invented by others. Icons, touchscreen etc all around on windows CE devices.

Hopefully Microsoft will be taking them to court soon

Nokia on 'brink of failure', warns analyst

Nokia are their own destroyers

Sticking with symbian for too long lost loyal customers. The Windows mobile marriage ensures they stay away and are happy they made the right call.

Nokia has always made decent hardware, and this is what will bring customers back. But only offering some Android devices will save the firm. They'd wipe the floor with HTC and their historic foes (samsung, Sony etc).

They have the hardware they just need an OS people want!

Revealed: Apple's plea for fairness in mobile patent war

NX1977
Mushroom

I'll squash you like a fly, just dont fight back

Basically Apple is realising the old boys club hold all the patents they're relying on to peddle their wares haven't taken kindly to Apple trying to stop sales of their products around the globe.

So the old firms have responded by pulling out their own and Apple realises the fight they started might actually backfire on them.

I for one like watching Apple squirm, and now no one there holds the same fighting spirit and determination of Jobs, shareholders are getting twitchy.

Perhaps the patent issue rumours as to why there isn't an iPhone 5 might actually hold some degree or truth?

Spooks still prefer BlackBerrys for swapping secrets

NX1977
Big Brother

I dont get it

Surely secret squirrels would want control of the data between handset and destination with as few steps as possible?

You could encrypt both ends now. Adding in someone elses system which could fail or get hacked surely isnt a wise idea for spook data?

It's just another unnecessary point added to the data path where someone could get hold of it.

But how long until RIM fess up? What was the target time-to-fess-up set by Sony over PSN again?

TomTom fights falling satnav sales with iPad app

NX1977
FAIL

So they want back into smartphone market eh?

Tomtom screwed over smartphone owners favour of pumping out their own hardware.

We didn't want yet another bit of tech to lug round so went elsewhere. Now there are so many as good as.or even better free versions with always current maps thanks to data access being pretty standard for many people.

They shot themselves in the foot and they know it. The only hope back in as an app vender, which is how they started, is via Apple owners who will buy pretty much anything if on offer via itunes.

Android sales won't be good as we like our stuff free and untouched by Apple! ;)

Microsoft fingered for Nokia's bleak future

NX1977
Mushroom

Windows alone is the start of the end

Windows phone or what ever you call it is not what consumers want. Businesses do like it, but only for email interaction without blackberry taxation.

If people wanted Microsoft phones, then they'd be a top 3 OS and handsets flying off the shelves.

Nokia should have simply ditched their own OS systems and focused on hardware for both Microsoft and Android just as Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson have (the other 'old boys' in the mobile hardware market).

Nokia's following was down to the hardware as it was almost always better than the competition which is one of the only reasons the N series sold well and the N95 was such a success.

The s40 series sold because of price, features and durability. The world moved on and Nokia didn't know how to and was left behind by its own stubborness to stick with symbian and not invest in touchscreen technology as it moved to capacitive and away from needing stylus'....

Nokia: When pigeons fly home to roast

NX1977

should have gone android

Why didn't Nokia use the highly customisable Android base like HTC has done and focus on a front end interface and their forte hardware.

Most people who've left Nokia ownership miss the hardware quality but don't want symbian or winmob.

Nokia need to realise this, and quickly.

If Nokia offered an Android phone, I'd be back like a shot. Instead a loyalty of over 14 years ceased last year.

Like many others I love Nokia Hardware build quality & spec, but couldnt stand Symbian any longer so jumped to a HTC Desire last March. So many other Nokia friends on support forums have now cropped up in the Android ones.
