Certainly gone down again for me, in the Filton area near Bristol - 100Gb monthly 4G as a backup, better stop downloading this months PS5 games though.

Australia gave police power to compel sysadmins into assisting account takeovers – so they plan to use it

Re: This years excuse

"It's simply taking advantage of the fact that many contractors don't have anywhere else to go at the moment as an excuse to squeeze contract terms."

It's called "Supply and Demand", welcome to capitalism.

Hats off to the the bold new strategy, surprised no one thought of that before.

Between you, me and that dodgy-looking USB: A little bit of paranoia never hurt anyone

NickyD
Stop

Re: paranoia

"Why is the branded USB drive any different ?"

Because you don't really know who made it and how? You may trust your contacts, but do you know how many layers of procurement and supply they went through to source these cheap 'gifts'?

Risk vs benefit - no real benefit vs a tiny (but > 0) risk of possibly severe consequences.

Re: "Do not use for bad stuff"

"Did he really think that just saying "don't do bad" would be enough ? Well, as the first poster demonstrates, it isn't."

He probably thinks its a legal disclaimer, "sorry occifer, I told them not to be naughty so its not my fault".

(For you Brits, Democrats are "blue" and Republicans "red", but are effectively a single party compared to the actually different political parties you have in the UK.)

Um, you'd get plenty of arguments here about that.

Survey: Apprenticeships will fix IT skills gap

NickyD
WTF?

Accountants

are the reasons there's a skills gap. I was made redundant from a general IT and software support role (off-shored to India) over a year ago, but all the companies (over 500) I have approached want people who are already good at the role they have vacant. No one seems willing to spend money and train a potentially suitable candidate with the lacking skills.

On £65 JSA a week i can't afford to go and professionally learn C++ or Java programming*, and the little I learned on my HNC wouldn't even get my CV from an agency to the employer.

Councils and police to publish speed camera data

NickyD

Only inaccurate in one way.

Speedometers are allowed to overread by up to 10% but NEVER underread. Therefore you can never be going faster than it tells you, 31 in a 30 may be implausible, but more down to the accuracy of the speed-camera etc; however who who would pay a fortune to argue that in court and risk much heavier penalties than the default fine and 3 points?

SeeSaw video-on-demand service to close

NickyD
FAIL

No point

I think the lack of a point played every part in its downfall - those that can surf the web can use things like iPlayer, 4od etc etc, and with a little step froward can grab everything via torrents. What compelling reason did they offer Joe Public to use or even pay for their service?
