I want a robot mower that can deal with the clippings.

Anyone who tells you that a mulching mower produces no mess obviously does not have dogs, and anyone who tells you a toy cutter like that has can mulch is having you on.

Cracking tent!

Robert E A Harvey

Re: Hang it from the cross-member of your tent?

You have to be very carefull hooking things over ridge poles - in a single skin tent the pressure point can cause an annoying leak.

Most tents worth buying have a couple of fabric loops sewn into the roof for hanging lanterns from.

Re: inverse case

>was the review consistent with the (eventual) content of the book?

It was essentially a personal attack on the author for having the temerity to write a book on that subject, and saying all his facts were wrong. I suspect a rival publisher who hadn't noticed the release date.

Robert E A Harvey

inverse case

A friend of mine had a devil of a job getting Amazon to remove a negative review of a book they were listing but which wasn't going to physically exist for at least 12 months.

And I do support certain political viewpoints on there, and if MI* are collating my remarks about IDS and Blair and Gove and Microband, then there is some chance they may get to hear my views, if only as part of a bell curve. Good. 'cos they ain't listening any other way.

How practical is an electric car in London?

Robert E A Harvey

Identification problem

"...allowing electric cars to drive in bus lanes.... California allows electric cars...car pool lanes,..."

Given how ordinary all cars look now, surely this would require all electric cars to have a BFO "E" stencilled on the bonnet in flourescent paint, so that the camera operators would know they are entitled?

Dell exec: HP's 'Machine OS' is a 'laughable' idea

Robert E A Harvey

Al of that.

I think that Dell rubbishing the idea of innovation is of a piece with Boeing giving up on innovation and all the other death-of-the-west retrenchment in businesses run by accountants and engineers . We desperately need innovation and R&D.

But I too have my doubts that HP will make a success of this. Their track record in recent decades is not encouraging.

Marc Andreessen: Edward Snowden is a 'textbook traitor'

Robert E A Harvey

Unpopular view

My view is that

* Snowden was, by simple definition, a traitor

* The world is better off for what he revealled

So he was a Traitor working for a corrupt regime. He decided he could not keep the secrets secret. That makes him a good man, but does not stop the unfortunate side effect of being traitorious toward a regime that neither he nor I respect.
