TSA screeners spooked by Apple's 'futuristic artifact'

Crofty616

Re: TSA fun continues

I visited the USA with some of my friends last year, I can honestly say I didn’t have any issues with airport security, and every member of staff we spoke to was very friendly. Guess it’s just down to personal experience, maybe next time I'll get pulled to one side and cavity searched to even it out, who knows!

Apple introduces 'next generation' MacBook Pro with retina display

Re: I give up...

I agree in most cases Wifi is available, but sometimes it just isn’t the best option compared to an Ethernet connection. And while as i mentioned I’m sure forking over yet more money isn’t a problem for most, it still irritates me that it has to be done for a top spec £2500 machine.

It’s a very nice machine, but overshadowed for me by sheer stupidity. What more do people want you ask? Only a little bit more I’d expect, 1 Ethernet port more to be precise.

I give up...

I've had a few heated debates in the past with my flat mate who used to work for Apple, mostly over how they can release a top spec, horrifically overpriced laptop and not include simple connection ports than are a modern day standard like HDMI. His usual reply is "Well you just have to buy an adapter" I then point out that if I've just spent £2500 on a laptop, why should I then have to spend more to get functionality that is present on my £400 13" netbook? Sure someone who spends £2500 on a laptop probably isn’t going to blink at another £40, but for not including something as obvious as a HDMI port in past models Apple infuriates me.

Where am I going with this? THEY NOW ADD A HDMI PORT AND REMOVE THE NETWORK PORT?!?

Hanging's too good for 'em - so what do you suggest?

Military Training

Tracking collar around the neck (in case they somehow escape), dumped in a Military training area where the forces hunt them down and kill them.

Gets rid of the scum, and the army get a chance to train on tracking enemy soldiers, job done.

Crofty616

RE: AC 13:02

I think you both kinda missed the point, the aim wasnt to stop people from accessing it, it was to raise awareness.

People loading up the page for the first time were made aware of SOPA and what was happening, people who otherwise may not have had any idea. Wiki even gave instructions on how to bypass it on their main page, because once you were made aware of what they were standing up for, the job was done.

Not accessing the website out of principle for the day doesnt really make any difference for what they were trying to achieve.

But you know what, since its defined as the person who "has most influenced the news – for better or for ill" It pains me to admit that he probably should win.

From the fanatical following of Ipads/Ipones, patent wars, and ultimately his death this is probably the case.

Cryptoboffin: Secure boot a boon for spooks' spyware

Crofty616

@boltar

Don't get me wrong, I have no illusions about Win 8 being some magical virus free heaven, that wasn't the point that I was making.

My point was that it really irritates me when Anti Virus companies kick up a fuss about new security features (good or bad) released by Microsoft based on their fear of losing profits, which lets face it is their main concern here "If Microsoft don't like us, and dont give us keys/add us to work on boot, we wont be able to make money from them anymore"

Let the down votes continue, but that's my take on it...

Crofty616

Oh boo hoo

"Building signed boot into UEFI will extend Microsoft’s power over the markets for AV software and other security tools that install around boot time"

They make their living by feeding off the flaws in other peoples (Microsoft's) software, and now they cry when Microsoft actually do something about the security of their own software?

Haven't made my mind up on Secure boot yet, but Anti Virus groups crying over it just irritates me...

Toshiba Qosmio X770 17.3in 3D gaming notebook

Crofty616

Indeed, a lot of people seem to make this assumption.

When people buy gaming laptops such as this one its to be a desktop replacement.

You can move from place to place easily, no separate tower, no big monitor, everything just there.

If you want a light laptop to look at websites for hours your not going to be buying a £1700 gaming laptop. I don't see why people put its size as a valid down side in these reviews.

ummm...

The article states that Vista SP1 support ended yesterday, so that would be a given. It then concludes with "we think its a fair bet that Vista support for all versions will end before XP finally expires in 2014" ...so I'm pretty sure he isn't the one who's needs to read it again ;).
