wtf indeed

frontier: elite2 and Elite3: first encounter fit that description well enough. Not to mention the once a year reminder from Braben that "elite4 is still in development"

AMD claims 'fastest graphics card in the world'

Do people actually live in their mum's cellar?

I can heat the house and has alternative uses? Stick a bigger fan on it to make it quieter and it sounds like a good deal for the family home. Just need someone to play on the PC for a bit on those cold winter evenings.

I wonder if AMD's next offering will come with a stove hotplate as its cooling.

WTF is... up with e-book pricing?

Cupidknewrap

got to agree...

sadly a move of house has left me with very little room for my collection of books. Getting an E-reader and laboriously "backing up" (read scanner and OCR aided copyright breach) my books has allowed me to clear out my rooms and put every book in boxes in the garage. Now I carry around all 300+ books at the same time, have a copy on the PC, have a tidier house and save on bookshelves £120 well spent.

The price of new e-books is simply outrageous, the physical cost of book production are gone and distribution costs must be next to nothing. Almost every e-book I've seen is around 1MB, an utterly trivial amount of bandwidth there is no way that and e-book should cost significantly more than the hardback issue. Before you know it the publishers will be crying that no-one wants to buy e-books and 'piracy' is a runaway problem.

Sony updates PS3 system software

pfft

There's an open variant of the hack that just need a programmable usb board so about £30 and by default won't allow piracy. Have you even looked at Homebrew scenes on other consoles? Yes most of their stuff only has curiosity value but the odd gem can be found here there and such communities actively try and discourage piracy.

If Sony et al would allow the community to make their own programs within a hyper-visor what harm would it do? they'd struggle to make games that could compete with professional games and if they did they might be tempted to ask to be allowed to sell it through the consoles on-line store.

The ability to make useful computer type applications won't appeal to the average user so the Console manufacturers won't do it and having killed the Other OS option has left my PS3 a rarely used toy rather than a genuinely useful second computer with a gaming OS.

I'm mostly bitter that my TV is deprived of a good media player the way the PS3 handles music is just terrible.

need to put together more tahn one bit of slang to get it.

no hits for "18750 police" "18750 murder" other than this article and others about the kiwi plate rules.

Although 187 is a police radio code for murder and "five-oh" is slang for police (god knows why as 50 is police code for transport).

Cupidknewrap

same here...

The first hits for "18750 murder" and "18750 police" are this article and nothing about slang or police radio codes anywhere to be seen.
