Yes very true and Voda did a good job getting these out, can't speak for all UK networks but i expect/know to see another network release this soon, it's the future VOIP and operators know it. Orange have UMA which doesn't even need the extra box, drawbacks is that it is a bit phone specific at the moment but that will change... have you tried/heard of UMA..UMA vs FEMTO that's a diif subject but anyone want to discuss?

Ah ok, thought it might be a typo. Femto can be open as well and their transmit is really weak compared to Macro but in the UMTS world interference is always possible. Voda sure signal has had a few teething problems in the UK but I'm sure as Femtos technology improves then it will be a growth area along with UMA.

Where do you get your information from? You use some terms which leads me to believe you have some technical knowledge but sorry I cannot agree with hardly any of the above. Anyway everyone one is entitled to their opinion, personally I can see good growth in this sector especially in SME with newer Femtos covering a larger area with more concurrent users. More and more Telcos are picking up on Femtos as part of their long term Strategies, I'm sure LTE versions are in the pipeline ( if not already out there).... Also what do you mean by no handover from RBS to Macro?

Sorry but Orange did not takeover T-Mobile they have merged Networks. And truly unlimited does mean truly unlimited, previously the fair use policy on unlimited just restricted streaming and downloading not surfing or email and yes I'd agree that this is not truly unlimited. This new one removes the fair use policy as well, only thing I would check if signing up was the QoS setting they were giving to me as this can restrict speed.

Operators trialling already
4G deployment will be rapid, most UK Mobile network cores are nearly ready. By the time they get the frequencies it will just be insert new card into subrack off we go. It will make 3G look like a complete waste of time, the whole code division WCDMA is so difficult to optimise and get right.

OFCOM really do not know their @rse from their Elbow
Voda and O2, two of the worst companies to deal with when you complain as they arrogantly know they have such an upper hand over their competitors. Why doesn't OFCOM understand the benefits to freq under 1GHz, the footprint of a 900 cell is massive compared to 1800... Orange and T-Mobile had to merge to avoid going under and how 3 survive I'll never know, thought OFCOM were supposed to oversee fair play and make sure the customers get the best deal... Oh well keep paying over the top for Voda and O2 they have got better 2G coverage but that's about it..

I'm not a fan of mobiles on planes, purely because anyone that would use one in that situation would most likely be an ignorant loud mouth. Having said that, no it would not effect local base stations and no it would not effect GPS..... UAE already have and allow use of Satellite back-hauled BTS's on their planes... Oh and if you use one in a petrol station you won't blow it up either (unless you drop it and the battery falls off causing a spark... So probably best to play safe eh!)

Terminating costs!
When you call someone there's terminating call charges from the called parties network..Also the calls would still have to go through the mobile operators network (UMA gateway) and this has to be bought and maintained... You won't have to use it but it's supposed to be of benefit to the user?

Why do people come on here and make statements as if they are facts when they really have no idea.... Fair use policy for T-mobile for instance is applied to streaming and up/downloading files, they will not change your connection speed!! You will still be able to browse & email it will just stop your streaming etc. after you hit the limit...Fact

You haven't really disagreed with me, I wouldn't be suprised if 02 already have some UMTS900 kit out there ready to turn on especially in rural areas. Just don't think it's a real biggy and I still think UMTS will be out the door as soon as LTE kicks off so I reckon skipping and concentrating on deploying this is the best option for the Networks and us users. Can you see people getting rid of their home fixed line BB and replacing it with unpredictable UMTS? I can't and won't but with LTE coverage I'd be ringing my fixed line provider the very next day...

Not if your phone is recent
Most UMTS phones are capable at of operating at several UMTS frequencies already, in fact the iphone can operate at 4 HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100. Check GSMARENA website if you want to know more about your own phone. Would imagine only Voda and 02 will make use of it and this will require hardware changes and a lot of cell site optimisation, in other words don't hold your breath.... LTE at 800 will be king

Iphones poor RF performance???
I presume you work for 02 seeing as you're using the comments on this site as a helpline forum. Why do you ask if they're using an Iphone / Blackberry shouldn't you be a bit careful with your questions it's almost like you're saying these phones have issues.... The websites not a bad idea if it's kept up to date and I presume it will help if people can check for themselves for live faults (less calls to helpdesk anyway). We all know the tools that show coverage cannot take everything into account (trees/leaves/tall buildings) so it's never going to be 100%....and although not relevant to your comment can people stop talking about bars on 3G they mean virtually nothing..

3G mobile phones.. no thanks
In reality there's no such thing as a 3G "mobile" phone, as soon as you start moving you'll probably drop the call !! For stationary data sticks it can be a good technology but even then cell breathing makes it unreliable. Should have gone straight from edge to LTE, this move by 3UK will probably see them disappear as a serious mobile phone operator. 2G for phones will be around for at least another ten years in the UK
