CM WAS first out the gate as a complete and actually feasibly working alternative. I've used CM since my first Android Donut device, (G1) and still use a build of it on my (admittedly dated) SGS3 . To this day I check to see if a CM build is available for any device that I root either for myself or others before rooting them. If CM can't do it, I tend to not even try. (Exception being the original Nook, which was quite a while ago). To this day, my Motorola Xoom runs CM and runs like a champ even if it is one of the early, early, EARLY tablets.
Not cool, Adobe: Give the Ninite guys a job, not the middle finger
I have seen so many malware sites pretending to be a "update" for flash that I as a general matter of course automatically close any window that even remotely looks like it. I have relied on ninite to keep me up to date since not even the best of us remembers exactly which version of Java we currently have/need and can be downloaded from, the Sun/Oracle/Java website is a stuck-in-the 90's nightmare of navigability and clarity and I spend enough time getting rid of McAfee on new pc's in favor of other security products that I certainly don't need or want Adobe foisting it on me.

US version on PC a touch touched as well
God forbid you're a Graphic Designer with a lot of fonts. Safari on PC stops loading fonts after about 850 and since some of the required fonts, like Verdana and Lucida might load AFTER that, they never get loaded into Safari resulting in an application with no text buttons or text rendered in the browser window.
