Re: North American Charging Standard

"I'm still gobsmacked to see EU people HAVE TO BRING THEIR OWN DAMN CHARGING CABLES. WTF is up with that idiocy? Here in the US, the cable is part of the charge station."

Only on slow chargers. It means for those walking down the street don't have to constantly avoid tripping up cables coming out of posts.

I've seen some in the US where the cable is left strewn around ready for other cars to drive over.

Re: MS Money keeps going and going and...

I still use MS Money to this day to manage my finances across lots of accounts.

Although I have to say, I only use it for the bare minimum downloading statements from banks and showing upcoming bills and balances, so I can plan a month in advance.

The only problem I have is that banks interpret the ofx file incorrectly and has resulted in me complaining multiple times for them to fix it. It seems each new internet banking version they come up with, they break it as they have no idea how to test!

Before I agree to let your app track me everywhere, I want something 'special' in return (winks)…

I always asked alexa to give pi to 10,000 decimal places when in John Lewis. Made sure volume set to 11 first and walked away.

Great fun.

They're locked down with awful demos now, so not so much fun.

IBM documentation links are always changing, I've lost track over the years of just how many times, I've needed to re-search for the documents that I had saved a nice handy link to.

Sometimes, if we were lucky, someone else on the BBS would have typed it in and we could download it using our 1200-baud modems

Luxury! 1200 baud modems were for rich people. I had to suffer with a 300 baud modem. And was thankful for it.

DAB just doesn't work for me

@Keith

You're lucky, I'm in Maidenhead and in my house, downstairs, I get zero DAB stations, upstairs, I get some occasionally with a lot of Dalek style break up of sound.

i just hate listening to those stations that are constantly advertising DAB saying how good it is. Utter Rubbish

I use FM and internet radio, they seem fine...DAB's for the dustbin.

I don't think flash has properly worked with FF for a couple of months now since FF 13 came out...on either of my pc's.

Keeps downloading new versions, but still borked and CPU tends to go through the roof and then crashes.

Re: Excellent work.

A neighbour of mine witnessed a lightning stike to his home. Whole room lit up.

Caused 10's of thouisands of damage, surge came in and radiated out through all electrical wires. Including the aerial.

Goes to show that unplugging the the mains is not enough, you have to completely isolate your telly if you want it to survive lightning.

Oh, and those surge protectory, not a chance with that sort of power involved!

Re: We need to invent light switches!

I've been playing with these LED's for a couple of years now.

the stated equivalent wattage is generally way off the mark. So I've got 8 lights in my kitchen, two sets of four. Four halogens and four LED's. The LED's are staggeringly dim compared to the 50w halogens and cost 10x as much.

I've tried various types, but the people selling them as I say, are exagerating their capabilities and shopuld be taken out and shot.

WOT, I See no Recruitment?

My employer (one of the world's largest companies), is hell bent on moving all skills to the lowest possible locations i.e. India and not China (because India's getting too expensive). They don't care about people, just numbers.

I know of one business manager who is an expert in this sort of offshoring. He would go to business managers and tell them he could reduce their costs to 25% of what they are now. When a manager turned around and said, no thank you, he would ask if they received a pay slip every month and which logo it had at the top.. They soon tumble.

There's a reson no ones going into the industr in the UK..... There's no jobs!
