In the sticks

I live in Cumbria. We have been passed up time and again for fibre and cable. We are home to the largest submarine building factory in the UK and yet we only have "up to" 20 mbps. I wouldn't say Cumbria was exactly flush with cash but if the government isn't going to pay for it why are we paying for others to have what we cannot? Surely a tax rate reduction would be sufficient to allow for the discrepancy. But then who would help pay for the rest of the infastructure?

Just a quick note, a new method has been released which roots the late b70 and b80 tablets. Whilst rooting allows users to do more with their hardware it also allows criminals easy access to data that should be secure if the hardware wasn't rooted.

BT lied to me...

when I was out of contract. I had heard that Sky were offering their service in our area (Cumbria) and that people close to the exchange could get the full 20Mbit speed. I called BT to make sure I wasn't in contract so that I could switch. They confirmed that I was out of of contract and then asked why I was looking at switching. I explained about the speeds that Sky could offer only to be told that the speed i was getting from them (8Mbit down/40Kbit up) was all that the line would support. I went with Sky anyway as it is saving me about £30 a month :), but Lo and Behold! I am now getting 20Mbit down and 1Mbit up! The retention staff at BT were adamant that the line would only support the speed I was getting and nothing more. We were ear marked for ADSL2 but after the date being moved back several times, we just disappeared altogether off the upgrade list.
