Going out and buying a dozen krispy kreme's for me and my co-workers, who have also probably no idea of the day of appreciation of us. :)

Re: Do TN licenses expire?

So technically, I can be as up to date with all of my M$ offerings until my sub ends in June 2014? Just go on a leeching spree of anything which I don't already have, and save the keys for future use?

rich0d

Just wondering, do TN licences timebomb after your years sub is up? Or do you just lose new activations?

Bitcoin now accepted in London pub. In Hack-ney, of course

How many alchy sysadmins will this draw in... ?

After a random chat with my boss earlier this week, I thought of the idea of using all our machines to chug away at mining bitcoins from the hours of 7pm-7am...

600xi5-2400's, and numerous servers all mining... Should pay for a Friday night or two.

Review: HTC One

Re: Potato instead of camera module

"On the positive side, at least the build quality on this new model might actually see out a two year contract for once."

How so? My original Desire is still going strong and is now my Mum's, and my HTC One X is still running pretty well, and there's barely a ding on it...

The only thing which is pulling me away from HTC and to Samsung is updates and battery life.

Used to have,

i7 920 - 20Gb RAM - 60Gb SSD - 2x500Gb RAID0

i5 2500k - 16Gb RAM - 120Gb SSD - 1Tb

HP MicroServer N36L - 8GB - 2x1Tb 1x2Tb

Getting shot of it all and going for a i7 3770T, 32Gb RAM, Q77 board, and another 120Gb to plonk it in RAID0 for VM storage, and then shove all the TB disks in and RDM them to the various VMs. Should run nice and suck very little juice.

Re: I like the idea but...

From what I read this article as, it's a vanity forwarder... So on forums, giving out to your mates, geeky associates, you'd use this. Then gmail\hotmail\selfhosted\whatever for people who aren't from the internets.

Microsoft fast-tracks Windows 8 Service Pack updates

Thumb Up

Re: It's not THAT new...

"Add Start8 to get your Start button back and "Windows 8" could be useable with keyboard and mouse on a PC. The touch interface on a tablet or smartphone hopefully will develop over time."

I agree - I installed 8 over the weekend, with the addition of Start8 - it's a bloody good OS, and I actually prefer it over anything I've used prior. The updates to explorer (tickboxes, yay!) and "enterprise" grade virtualmalization is pretty awesome, another cool thing which I've been wanting natively for ages... a task bar for BOTH MONITORS. Still early days, but so far, so good.

Windows Server 2012: Smarter, stronger, frustrating

When you say "up to two virtual instances" does that mean Hyper-V in 2012 Std is *limited* to 2 Windows VMs? Or that's what's included in the licencing? Just IIRC, 2k8 R2 ent you was entitled to 4(?) "free" 2k8 VMs in it.

Seriously? How are people moaning about the lack of storage. I have a 16Gb iPad 2 - and I don't have any issues with storage, admittedly - I don't lug around my entire music\film collection on there, I simply drag\drop what I want onto my iPad when the urge takes me when leaving the house. I personally feel 8\16Gb is fine, I would get one of these (getting one for the Mothership instead - who I already showed her it and she loved it) but I am actually holding out for a Surface Pro, as it's the ultimate in sys admin goodness, the ability to be on the network (private APN) all the time, and RDP into anything I want and with a tablet optimized UI? Yes please.

Sick of Ubuntu's bad breath? Suck on a Linux Mint instead

You can easily remove them, and replace them with gnome defaults.

I myself switched from jumping between F14/15/16/Ubuntu to LMDE, purely because it's a rolling release, and it ships with Gnome2 as opposed to 3, as 3 in my eyes is an abomination.

Win8: A beginner's guide to FondleWindows

I concur.. ish.

Yeah, I can imagine sales peons- I mean people creaming in their suits for this. Whilst I, the sys admin, will still be using Win7 as I can't stand the look of it - or at least I hope that it doesn't get shoved down my throat with no escape of the aptly named FondleWindows.

X30/40/60 alternative...

Upon reading this - and being a junky for little computing, and wanted something *smaller* than my 13.3, I was instantly hooked on the idea of having a X series to chuck in my bag. I couldn't find a good TP for little money, but stumbled upon another gem, Dell D420/430, I picked one up off fleabay for £115 including postage, "mint condition", for a 12.1" wide screen, C2D ULV, 2Gb RAM, which'll blow any Atom out of the water, it's a steal.

The one downside to it is the ZIF PATA which it supposidly has. But oh well! A minor issue. 60Gb is more than enough for me to have a #! install on. :)
