Re: Stop........

but android is kinda like linux... it's too geeky to be considered for advanced software & hardware like this. appletv will become the standard for television delivery so it's best to focus on the top player (about 70% of the itv space) then the small "me too" products.

But this will be triple layer like used in the Apple Store, so kinda hard to break. They designed all that out during the engineering phase.

Stallman Clueless as Usual

Richard doesn't like people to have great devices unencumbered by technical glitches. His whole premise is computing devices should be complex, poorly made, so to retain his finger hold on the 1980's.

Sorry Richard, Apple users have moved up to a higher plane of existence...

Lack of Ports? it's wireless!

The author is clearly living in the 1990's... why would he still want "ports" when everything is wireless over 802.11n or Bluetooth? - Yeah, sure everyone still loves FireWire, but but even that fast connection will be replaced by ONE CABLE.

Apple is gearing everything for the day that Intel's ThunderBolt provides every port through ONE port... Power, FireWire, USB, Ethernet, Video of course, audio, etc... Intel is killing USB 3.0 so the future is clear.

So again the author isn't thinking like how Apple thinks, he is stuck in the past.

People can learn how the future is going to work in terms of tethered "cables" right here:

The goal is ONE cable for EVERY connection type...

http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/

Ted
Happy

But remember Intel is killing off USB 3

Intel's entire focus is now Thunderbolt for I/O. They will no longer promote USB 3.0 since it's an obsolete "Hub & Spoke" topology.

You can learn how it works here:

http://www.intel.com/technology/io/thunderbolt/index.htm

-

I think USB 2.1 has a good 10 years, but nobody really used 3.0, so Intel is removing it.

Yes, the fine quality of Apple products...

Sure people pay a bit more up front for Apple's higher quality hardware and software, but they also retain their value far longer, so it's better "purchase" compared to non-Apple kit.

Apple just represents the people that are "good with money" and those who "are not". Smart people get Apple product each time if you look at the data.

G4 iMac Design

Yes, the G4 iMac remains as one of Apple's best designs in their history, they still work well today. I still have about 35 of them running in client offices... but think the expense to build them was too much from a manufacturing standpoint. Plus the G5 burned too hot, so that half bubble design, with the surgical arm had to be abandoned.

As I mentioned they work well, but even something like a failing hard drive (9 years out) is difficult to replace. If the screen goes, forget it... I've sold a few as "headless", like a Mac mini... kinda funny, but not really worth it.

Americans Hate Androids Too

Here in the States, most everyone dislikes the Android smartphones as well. Too "clunky" is what most people say. Then there is the lack of software, poor hardware quality and dismal battery life makes them quite unpopular.

Android sales have really dropped off now that the iPhone is on all the main carriers, so Android is fading out like everyone predicted.

Android bites big chunk out of Apple iPad market share

Ted
Thumb Down

This article is wishful thinking...

The Android will never be much of a tablet platform, the author is forgetting the iPad 2 is coming in a few months which will further reduce the percentage of Android tablets sold. Apple for at least the next decade will have around 90% share of the tablet market.

Everyone wants the iPad since that's where all the software is, where the developers are and the "best value" hardware will always be. So everyone needs to keep that in mind.

the Apple Shuffle is a better product.

The Sansa Clip is fine for beginners, but most people want a more feature rich product. iTunes opens up a huge world of free content plus it's far easier to manage than what Sansa can offer. You'll get a iPod Shuffle soon, (it's only $49) then you'll see why the vast majority prefer it.. you can get started here:

iTunes works great...

I think yours and other people's problem with iTunes is you are still trying to run Windows which doesn't have strong enough OS underpinnings to support modern Apps like iTunes. So the problem isn't iTunes, it's Windows since iTunes runs wonderfully on the Mac. So Microsoft needs to get their act together and get Windows up to speed or people will continue to point fingers in the wrong direction.

Pressure mounts on Apple to recall iPhone 4

Ted
WTF?

The complainers are Android users...

It's funny, but if you notice all iPhone 4 owners are happy with the their new iPhone, it seems to be isolated to "Android" or non-users of the iPhone 4 that are "unhappy" with the iPhone 4. Think about it...

Ted
Boffin

Software can fix Hardware 90% of the time

No, software can fix almost all hardware problems, that's the magic of the silicon valley don't forget. You can always supply more power to the antennas if it senses a touch between the 2 antennas for example, so their are plenty of software fixes for something like this.

No, the iPhone 4 is excellent, it just needs some adjustment. So learn to check facts before you post to a comment section. Thanks.

Ted
Boffin

There won't be a recall...

Nobody in the electronics field is suggesting a recall, but what will probably happen is Apple will release a software fix, then issue all iPhone 4 owners a $50 Store Coupon for a case or anything else. That would solve the problem and make everyone happy. The media (and perpetually disgruntled android users) love to over exaggerate, but the problem isn't that serious and only effects people who don't have cases.

The iPhone 3G had far more serious issues 2 years ago, but nobody remembers it now, this will follow the same path.

It has FireWire 800, eSATA not needed...

Some people are not understanding it also has FireWire 800, so needing eSATA is rather pointless. FireWire is a far more useful bus, supports up to 63 devices, and no extra power... sweet!

Apple's iPad resellers are revolting

Ted
Grenade

No, it's not a ploy, it's just well made

No, Apple would never do this on purpose, that's not their ethical approach to business. The problem is the iPad is incredibly well made and they priced it too low so demand will outstrip supply for the next year or so.

You really need to use a product before you use a product, you clearly don't understand how it works, so have been tricked into thinking people are waiting in line for no good reason. Someday you'll touch one and see what all the excitement is about.

So you have played the fool... check facts next time...

Ted
Boffin

Actually the iPad will be far bigger than the iPhone

The iPhone was great back in the day, but the iPad is what will change the entire computer industry... It's almost as big as the Mac... if you can believe it! It changes the entire landscape of computing... yes, it's early, but hang on tight... all computers will work like the iPad in 10 years.

Ted
Boffin

Apple rarely does much marketing...

Yes, Apple tends to let their products speak for themselves, they rarely spend much money on "marketing"... they have the lowest advertising budget of all computer and cell phone companies for example.

Apple just makes great stuff... which makes people that are "connected" to all the poor quality products MAD... they get flustered since they don't have the engineering, the vision, the software skills to make great products.

It's sad, but Apple just focuses on the "customer" experience... then everything else falls into place.

Ted
Boffin

The shortages are real...

It's now a 2 week wait to get a 3G iPad in the States, and it's only going to get worse since the iPad is priced too cheaply for what it does... it's beyond amazing...

No, Apple wouldn't restrict supply, that would make no sense. The problem seems to be the IPS touch screens... nobody has ever tried to make such large, high quality touch screens in such volumes before... so coupled with the tremendous demand, there is simply no way to create enough units.

Ted

iPads in short supply as tablets take off

Ted
Boffin

Apple can't keep up with demand...

The problem is the glass touch screen, it's difficult to make them at such precision. So couple that with iPads being priced too cheaply and you run out of them... A good example is I reserved a 3G 32GB on May 6th, then just yesterday (May 23rd) did my iPad come in... so it's a serious issue since demand is so strong... It's going to be like this all year, Apple is trying to catch up, but the iPad is just too well made, too fast, and well... wonderful.

As a side note: no wonder Apple is about to surpass Microsoft to become the 2nd most valuable company in America... it should happen sometime this week...

Apple said to order 24 million iPhone 4Gs

Ted
Boffin

You are not understanding...

Resolution is only one aspect of how good a screen is... you are not understanding that don't have quality graphics since your OS doesn't support it, so visually, your phone looks like an Atari 800 compared to iPhone. also too, the type of screen that you have is a sub par panel, the iPhone is the top display made, so you are missing out if you like crisp graphics.

So we realize you are jealous of iPhone users, but don't spout "specs" that have little bearing on the level of quality you are experiencing. You'll get an iPhone someday, don't worry!

You need to order before the ship date because there is only going to be 700,000 available for the first month, so unless you reserve or get a pre-order in place, you could be empty handed.

Steve Jobs in secret NYT meet

Ted

Murdoch is pretty weak...

You are forgetting Jobs is a lot more intelligent and shrewd than Murdoch... Jobs has far more leverage was well since we all know traditional media is collapsing and Murdoch is really at a disadvantage as the iPad takes over much of his newspaper and news channel empire.

We'll see... but Murdoch isn't tech savvy, so Jobs will crush him at every turn.

Steve Jobs uncloaks the 'iPad'

Ted
Boffin

Oops, you forgot to think.

It's a real shame you got all of your comments wrong.

You can't do multitasking yet, it eats batteries but you have push notification so it allows apps to run in the background,

You can use skype, but just without video. A camera eats batteries don't forget.

No, you have the entire internet as a hard drive, or any wireless hard drive through an Apple Airport. So even the 16GB model is plenty.

All batteries on all Apple products are replaceable, you would never need to send it to Apple for a new battery, that was just a myth.

Well, Flash isn't an open standard, plus it eats batteries, so HTML 5 will fill that need as we move away from Flash.

$130 for 3G is about right, and the data plan is $14.99 a month.

Yeah, but a NetBook is going to have a crappy screen, it's only going to run Windows, it will be super slow and have far less software.

I can tell you really want an iPad, but are trying to lie to yourself about problems that don't exist.

Watch the Keynote... it will help you decide...

Apple: iPhone App and iTunes stores don't make money

Ted
Boffin

Apple has nothing close to a monopoly.

Just a correction for you and everyone that somehow thinks Apple has some kind of "monopoly".

There can't be antitrust or monopoly issues when you only control 4% of the cell phone market. Customers are happy to go elsewhere if they don't like the consistency and ease of use of Apple products. Even with the iPod at around 70% share of "mp3 players", it's nowhere close to a monopoly since there are plenty of other ways to obtain and listen to "music" in that "market"...

Apple is vertically integrated... and that's perfectly legal since you can't have a "monopoly" on your own products.

So will people please pass on the fact that Apple is nowhere close to any monopoly position. If you don't like the iPhone, then you have 100's of other choices. ONLY if Apple had around 80% of ALL cell phones would antitrust become an issue. But with 4% or (technically less) they are far, far, far away from any "monopoly" position.

Now you know!

Ted
Boffin

Yes, you are mixed up.

Only a tiny fraction of Apps aren't approved, it's far less than 1%... yes, some developers need to do more work before they are allowed on the App Store, which is good for customers and reliablity. So Apple isn't doing it out of spite, but for the good of everyone.

Ah, market forces have spoken and Mac, iPhone sales are off the charts... Mac sales were up 30% from last year at this time, iPhone sales were up 100%, so there is no "plummeting".

Yes, Ovi and Windows Mobile Store have failed, so they are considering getting out of the market, they just can't compete with a high quality product like the iPhone and App Store.

The Tablet comes out tomorrow which will be the first successful tablet in the market, so it's only going to get worse for competitors since they continue to fail at providing a quality device.

iSlate? I spy more control from Cupertino

Ted
Boffin

Is your post from 2004

Everyone installs software on the iPhone and iPod Touch, it's super easy, just a couple of touches.

Ah, the greasy finger print problem was solved with the iPhone 3GS, so you certainly don't keep up.

No, the iBook or whatever it will be called, will be the primary device, Fujitsu, Nokia, Linux, Amazon don't have the computing background, or engineering skills like Apple does... Apple will sell a bit over 10 million unit that first year, so those other companies are toast.

Jobs jumps in to free private APIs

Ted
Boffin

The problem is...

You can't have private APIs since as underlying OS changes inevitably happen... you could have that App fail and have unhappy customers pointing at Apple, not the developer. Everything in the Apple ecosystem has to run well and be unified as much as possible. This event is curious, but probably means it will be included with iPhone OS 4.0, so Steve gave the Okay.

So it's not at their "own risk", it's really at "Apple's risk" of a customer having a poor future experience.

MacBook Air battery can be changed...

It still seems there are a few people out there that don't know the MacBook Battery, along with ALL MacBook batteries can easily be changed.

The cost for a new MacBook Air battery is $66 on eBay, so please give it a rest that it can't be changed. That's a lie and you know it...

So in 3 or 4 years when it needs changing, just do it, quit complaining about something you know nothing about.

Ted
Boffin

If you still need ethernet, add it!

Not sure why anyone would need ethernet with fast 802.11n speeds, but if you are an old timer, you can easily add ethernet to any MacBook Air for $20. Backups and everything else is plenty fast over wireless, it's just the old "cable people" haven't kept up with modern wireless. 802.11n is just as fast as 100mbps cabled ethernet. So what is the problem? You have slow wireless network that's all... quit living in the past...

Larger Enterprise Purchases

@ Michael C

No problem, if you didn't get the response you were looking for, go up the chain. Call Apple "directly" until you find the group or person that will answer all of your questions and take your order. Apple is about 16,000 people (minus the Store staff) so it can take several calls, but anyone calling with a request for 14,000 units of anything, will be taken care of quite quickly...

Call 408 996-1010 - that is the main switchboard, explain your request and you'll be routed to the appropriate group or person.

Apple MacBook Pro firmware fritzes third-party HDDs

Ted
Boffin

It's just a bug...

It's amazing how ignorant people are about Apple. Of course Apple didn't intentionally cause this error... it just is a bug in conflicting HD firmwares. Less than .0001% of people will ever experience this when updating HDs in MacBook Pros so it's a non-event.

Apple stuff works extremely well, it's near perfection... but 20 people out of 370,000 is not something to get worked up about.
