Re: SCREEN!! SCREEN!!! OMG!!!!
Yeah- they had to cram a pretty remarkable battery into the new iPad to hold the line at 10 hours. But they managed it. I'll take 10 hours without an add-on battery over 12 with (the admittedly handy) keyboard dock.

I hope it pushes the revolution into laptops and desktops. On it's own I don't see the screen on the new iPad as being revolutionary -- 1024x768 looks fine on an iPad. Not that I'm rubbishing it -- I've put my order in already because I'm a pixel count whore. But what really kills me is that we've been stuck at 1900x1200 as the maximum resolution for relatively inexpensive, relatively ubiquitous displays forever.
The stores have a tendency to be insanely busy, and they've mostly dispensed with the traditional cashier. So you have to get the attention of a store employee who is probably tied up helping somebody else (do something time consuming) in order to find out who to pay today for an item in hand - which may or may not be the person you're talking to. So yes- it is a real problem.
The rest of the world has had a decade to adopt a "pretty" Linux on the desktop. If it hasn't happened yet, it isn't going to. The latest desktop tear up and rewrite sacrifices the existing user base for an improbable dream.
Revelation 3:16 comes to mind - So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
There is a straight line from reading the BOFH on Usenet in my mother's office twenty years ago, to installing Linux as soon as I could find it, to my first job at Lucent (with a brief stint on the Bell Labs side of the building maintaining the exptools distribution) to sitting at my desk typing this morning. The influence of dmr on this path is incalculable.
