Dixons to shutter 92 UK Carphone Warehouse shops after profit warning

Kris Akabusi

Re: No surprise

I think you get to a certain age and refuse to pay over £40 for a phone, a young lad I work work with quite happily pays £50 + for a S9 where as I balk at paying that kind of sum.

Her indoors just got a S9 for £23 and £165 upfront making it around the rrp of the phone, carphone warehouse couldn't match it and said it was a con.

Likewise, at work, we have a key-card entry system. We bought that in 2011 and it would only run on XP at the time and couldn't be installed on a terminal server.

Doesn't that show a lack of forward thinking on whoever bought the key card system?

Re: Memories

Forgot the map - upvoted for the reminder.

There was a Lamborghini in the game but you could never find it, but once you did every other car would be one. Still it was a fantastic game which I still played even when I had the London add on and the sequel (which personally I thought were poor)

Memories

I bought this as a 16 year old from my local PC independent game shop. I think there was a rumor that it was banned or going to be banned so shops wouldn't be able to sell it.

Re: OEM Bloat not Decreased since Z1?

Indeed, the chap above must never have used a Orange or Vodaphone branded handset in the early 2000's.

I've had a Z1 since it came out, it is rather annoying that Sony release a new one every 6 months but then I remind myself I don't need to upgrade just because there is a new shiny out.

The Walkman app is the best music app on Android! I've trailed most and nothing seems to be as nice to use as the Walkman app. The only one to come close was iTunes on the iPhone 3Gs (if it still the same on the 6 then include that one as well). Its just a shame that my other half who has a Note 3 can't get it.

Rasplex

My pi runs rasplex fine, the plex media server is on an HP 36l microserver (which also is a hyper v host).

You can use a pi for whatever you want, after all you bought it.

I might get another one to use as an additional plex client just to annoy people who think it should be used for educational purposes.

2 player co-op is where its at, the Lego games are the only games released recently that inccorporate this feature. Thrashing the other half on GT5 gets a bit boring but explaing to her that head shots are the way forward on Resi evil 5 / 6 is a great evening.

LogMeIn: We're stopping our free offering from now

Kris Akabusi

I've used the free logmein for about a year now at home and on the back of that purchased the pro version at work to support our regional sales people. This month I bought the LogMeIn Ignition android app for about £20.14, the most expensive app I've bought by some margin to support the company even though I only use it on 2 pc's.

This is a kick in the b0ll0cks for me and everyone else who bought the app.

Re: Single player campaign

I haven't played COD:Ghosts but if you're saying that the single player campaign is better on Battlefield then it must be dire. I bought Battlefield and thought the single player was one of the worst FPS games I've ever played, the story was boring, the characters forgetful and the graphics a bit meh.

Played it online and it was alright but I may be the minority but I buy these games for the campaign aspect, the multiplayer is something to look into when I've finished the story. I'm struggling to remember the last few COD games story wise, the last COD games I really enjoyed was COD3 and MW.

Did Activision say they were done with WW2 stories now?

Reboot the formula: F1 and FIFA tweaked for another year

Kris Akabusi

Re: Does FIFA ## still cheat?

Yes FIFA still cheats, there is the issue with switching players (switching to the one furthest away), first touches that the computer anticipates and the most annoying which is when you tackle the computer the ball bounces off another of your team mates and goes directly to an opposition player leaving them on a 1 on 1.

Apple updates iOS, mum on Wi-Fi, battery fixes

Kris Akabusi

ahhh you saw through my veil of deceit..............

seriously through I bought a desire about 18 months ago as I wanted to try android (kept my 3gs) and generally did like android. The desire was well built, had a (from my view) better screen then the 3gs but the things that made me go back to the 3gs was that there was no OTA update to gingerbread and it kept running out of space.

So in summary I have tried both devices, I might pick up a one x when they have been out a while, but I don't think i am a fan boy, I just like to applaud when a company does something right and that on this occasion is apple. If you can name an android phone older then 2 years that is still supported by the manufacturer then I will be intrested.

Kris Akabusi

Good to see a manufacturer supporting their older devices (3GS is coming up 3 years old).

Samsung Galaxy S III: A Swiss army knife of wireless tech

Kris Akabusi

Re: @Spanners & Kris..

My other half with her shiny new one x wants a phone dock like the iphones have - you drop the phone onto a port and it plays music through the docks speakers. AFAIK there is no device for android that can do this.

From your link it looks like samsung have a way of outputting sound out through micro-usb, excellent news but somewhat strange how no other company has gone this route.

Kris Akabusi

Not aimed at Samsung

The main problem with Android phones at the moment is lack of audio through USB, the iPhone has been doing this since it came out so why has it taken Google this long not to adopt this feature? The other halfs One X has the usb port on the side for heavens sake, whats the point in that? We had a look at one of the Phillips android docks which can accommodate any phone by moving the connector about but you have to pair the phone to the dock using bluetooth!

The sooner Google get this sorted then the sooner android will have a lot more quality devices.

Re: So...

Our lass loves the lego games, just trying to get 100% on the 2nd harry potter one at the min. Best one was Pirates, graphically and replayability was fantastic, totally recommend those for family friendly co-op play. Next on the list is Lego Star Wars (not clone wars as it was not fun at all).

Kris Akabusi

Been looking forward to this game ever since I saw it as a pre order on play, probably won't bother now.
