Clock ticking for Surface 3 as Microsoft preps for globo-launch

kwv-dc

Without 4G what is the point?

In no US store does Microsoft sell any model PC from any OEM with unlocked 4G.

The Surface 3 Pro would be a decent I Pad replacement were this corrected .... but it won't be corrected.

A really nice travel device would be the Dell XPS 18 with stylus & unlocked 4G .... but Michael Dell & Lawrence Tu apparently don't travel ..... and they haven't even updated this model to Haswell .....

Windows 8.1: Microsoft's reluctant upgrade has a split-screen personality

Win 8.1 Wonderful? Not likely !!!

Win 8.1 net-centric ?? Wonderul for the billion having decent net access ..... not so brilliant for the 6 billion having little or no net access. Actually, considering the latencies in Office 2013, its not even wonderful for those with 100 Mbs.

Let's see, if MS/Ballmer can add another 25,000 programers, they can fix this Win 8.1 baby.

By the way, compared to Sugarsync, SkyDrive is simply awful.

I must have gotten out of the wrong side of the bed this sunny September morning here in Moscow, Russia !!

Why Teflon Ballmer had to go: He couldn't shift crud from Windows 8, Surface

Microsofts most destructive mistake in strategic planning was the decision to compete with Apple as a hardware producer. Acer has announced that it will focus on Chrome and Android. HP sells the Revolve primarily as Windows 7 device. Microsoft cannot compete with the variety of innovative designs of the many OEMs.

Even if Microsoft succeeded in hardware, it would raise issues of monopoly, likely leading to a break-up.

Microsoft should have set standards for Windows 8 touch "leap-frogged" competitive products, as Intel did with "Ultrabooks."

There are a variety of interesting products on the market using touch Windows 8 ( LeNovo Twist, Asus Transformer Book 13.3, Asus Taichi, Samsung Ativ ( second gen). Dell XPS 18, Dell XPS 27 .... but all fall short of desirable standards: backlit keyboards, 1 TB HD or 512 GB SSD, full HD or higher screens, 4G LTE, incorporated multimedia, stylus support.

MS could have set these features as a qualifying standard for Win * "Touch" designation.

Microsoft stores are mostly empty, especially compared with Apple stores. Now Samsung and Microsoft ( separately ) will take space in Best Buy stores .... hopefully staffed with more competence than BB employees.

Unless Microsoft abandons the hardware market, I would suggest the OEMS set-up a software and operating system alliance and develop a Linux variant ( similar to Ubuntu ).

Windows 8 touch with both desktop and apps can be revitalized, but from I've read on Windows 8.1, Microsoft still doesn't understand the desktop v app potential and users desire to control all aspects of the software experience ....

Ballmer comes not to praise Sinofsky but to bury him

kwv-dc

For Ballmer

Not matter how you look at it, its really difficult to put the nails into your own coffin, ergo Ballmer's decision re Sinofsky !!!

You know who else hates Windows 8? Hackers

kwv-dc

Absolutely shocking: in the MS store in Pentagon City, not a single device from ANY OEM or MS has 4G or even 3G !!!!

A stunning failure for a company trying to leap-frog Apple !!!!

An absolute failure of corporate strategic planning.

How does Ballmer fire himself? Look in a mirror, Mr. Ballmer and mouth the words "your fired."

There is life after the death of Microsoft’s Windows 8 Start button

A Truly Ugly Desktop

A Truly Ugly Desktop .... wake me up when Win 9 is announced or MS is bankrupt, which even come first.

Windows 8: Microsoft's tablet-desktop still painful to swallow

MS

Reviewing Windows after the disaster of Win7 and 7.5 phone editions, it is increasingly looking to me as though Microsoft is headed to the dustbin of intellectual history. Used to be " I like Mike" ....as in Michael Jordan . ...now, for MS, its I wanna be like Apple ... me too, me too ..... To bad ... just being MS with dozens of OEMs around the globe producing competing products could have driven Apple's market cap back to its < 10% market share...

Now Office 2013 ..... especially Outlook seems aimed at copying the web-based e-mail offerings ..... so I'll have to check off each of more than 150 e-mails each day in order to delete .... Making AOL client side looking better all the time ...... maybe AOL can recover from its $250 market cap loss after all .....

Ugly is as Ugly

Ugly is as Ugly Does ...

Who needs those "bricks" ???

Will buy a Win7 Ultrabook and wait for the reprise of Vista/Win 7 ,,,,, if MS manages to avoid liquidation ...

WinNok is no WinTel .......

I had the Nokia E90 and E7 ...both with Symbian ... and both were FAR better than the Nokia Lumina 900 with Windows 7.5.

Win 7.5 is not at all intuitive .... Win Mobile 4.5, 6.0 and 6.5 were far better ..... especially the latter .... which MS abandoned.

No micro - SDXC?

No ability to turn-off auto cap, text completion, punctuation ( MS knows better than you how you want to format SMS messages ...... just ask Steve Ballmer ....)

I spent 5 hours with MS India Tech Assistance trying to get Outlook synced .... and they managed to delete ten year of notes and all calendar entries ....

After 10 days, I finally took the phone back to AT&T and purchased a Samsung Note ...... absolutely a great phone ( although having a keyboard a la the Asus Transformers would be a nice addition)

I like Windows PC OS 7 ..... and would love to see MS improve the touch variant ..... but the Tiles ( or bricks ) on Win 7.5 are a waste of real estate and increase the number of clicks to complete most tasks ..... but again, MS knows best .... just ask Stevie B ........
