Microsoft ends OEM sales of Windows 7 Pro and Windows 8.1

Can Still Buy...

My Dell rep told me last week that Windows 7 PC's will be available for another year.

Just checked Dell.com and it is available for purchase.

It is just like it has been for the last year or so. It comes with a Windows 10 license, but Windows 7 is installed.

Microsoft's kinder, gentler collaboration war: Evernote, you're first

Sucked 71 Million Pages

a migration tool for Windows users, delivered in March, which Microsoft claims has sucked 71 million Evernote pages into OneNote.

It is not just Windows 10 that is of a privacy concern but it seems now it is EVERYTHING Microsoft.

Apparently the import phones home for Microsoft to come up with this number of 71 million pages imported. I never realized the bigger picture until now with Microsoft. Apparently they now have baked into every Microsoft product for every action that you do. This is very very scary and worse than being on a public Wi-Fi.

Microsoft comes right out and says backup software is dead

I Use The Cloud - My Cloud

For my clients that require a Cloud Base backup I use a server that is located locally which I can actually walk up to and connect an external hard drive, retrieve their encrypted data and be back on site same day. The internet can be taken down and I still have access to my clients cloud base backup data.

The idea of putting my customers data on a Microsoft cloud which is located no telling where in the world in my opinion is just plain stupid. Even if I could possibly locate the actual physical location of this server, there is just no way they would give me hands-on access to my data.

Another thing that scares the shit out of me is let's say that they have an update on their end or someone somewhere hits the delete key for whatever and you wake up one morning and you do not exist as a client and therefore you no longer have access to your data. Sure maybe after a week or 2 and 30 emails later you might convince someone somewhere that you are legit and the process of trying to recover your data will start.

The Cloud - Sure. Their Cloud - No Way.

Windows XP SP3 leaps into the tubes

Alert

It is the Same as the Vista Activation

.

First I am a Micro Fan Boy but I am not installing this service pack.

Microsoft has changed the activation scheme on this version to the same as Vista. It will phone home and if it decides that you are NOT Authenic, it will then go into a Dysfunctional mode just like Vista.

Even a simple thing like flashing your BIOS will throw it for a loop.

You Poor Brits

.

For once Europe get's 1st crack at something new and they screw it up for you guys.

I have notice that for most launches, it is either Japan or the US with it first and Euro to follow up with a later release date.

Here is a new model lineup and for once you guys get first crack at it and BAM - they screw it up.

What a JIP

You Media Guys

Hey El Reg

Again you and everyone else in the press is hammering away for every info about MS for the Vista SP1.

Screw Hasta La Vista.

You guys need to be on MS butt about SP3 for XP. They are intentionally delaying this SP3 as so to launch SP1 for Vista first. This in their mind is that Vista will be excepted instead of XP.

SP3 for XP should have been launched over a year ago and definately before SP1 for Vista.

First Vista service pack beta for 07

If this is not playing politics with an OS.

Windows XP Service Pack 3 should have been released at the end of this year and it should also be released way before Service Pack 1 for Vista.

Again to much power for one company. This appearance by Microsoft to shove Vista at all cost and just drop XP is what gives it a bad name, but Microsoft is not alone in this deceit. All of these media sites just let them get away with it.

Why should we expect a Service Pack to be available for Vista before a 3rd Service Pack for XP is available? That is because this is the company line from Microsoft and so the press is doing Microsoft's bidding making it sound like everyone is waiting and wanting Service Pack 1 for Vista. Not.

Why isn't the press crying out load for Service Pack 3 for XP? Politics of a different format...

Microsoft finds good facts to sell Windows Vista

XP Activation

Microsoft better figure a way out for this one. They are going to have an end of lofe cycle for XP and it is just around the corner.

Unlike 98 or 2000 Pro, XP has this built in activation scheem in the name of PIRACY (yea right) and has now positioned itself to flip the switch and everyone will have no choice but to use Vista - Oh Boy!!!

OEM licenses cannot be transfered and they are going to stop selling new XP Licenses for new systems and then what.

I remember this same issue with ME and the masses just stayed with 98 until something better like XP came along.

Windows Vista aligned with good management practice

Oh Ken - I'm an ignorant fool"

<<<... No, it won't. When the time comes to end support, Microsoft will still allow

<<<activation of existing XP licenses so that people reformatting their computers

<<<won't be shut out. There simply won't be any new licenses created / sold,

<<<and you won't be able to talk to MS about your problems with XP

.

.

.

.

.

You see there lies the problem. Currently XP is available for Purchase and Support and is on only about 90% of the PC's worldwide.

Yes you will always be able to reformat and then jump through hoops to re-activate the current system, but if you replace a system, then the license is not transferable and you have to purchase a new license. Well if Micorosoft and only Microsoft decides NO, then what.

First, you misunderstand my love for Microsoft. I have been an authoirized system builder for 10 years and my sole business is based on the Microsoft model. What Microsoft is doing in the name of PIRACY is setting themselves up as the final judge and jury for forcing the masses from one OS to another whether it is better or not and unfortunatly Vista is not ready.

Second, I remember when 95 came out and how it was at midnight everyone was in line to purchase it. It was not because at that time because Microsoft said so - it was because it was a better OS with many many improvements. Did you see any long lines at midnight for Vista? Besides cosmetics, there is nothing that justifies the upgrade.

Vista has abosultly NOTHING that cannot be done in XP and there lies the problem and yet when they say switch or else, Who, What, Where can tell them - Wait a minute, Why.

Unlike 98

When XP was introduced there was no immediate cut off date for 98 until a few years later. Everyone moved to XP because it was better. However there were a lot who stayed with 98 for a while and made the switch because of their own timing.

There was no activation with 98 and Microsoft could not force you to switch to XP.

But now with the activation that is with XP, when Microsoft says switch or else, we are at their mercy and this is scary. Vista is not a better OS. Not that it is DRM infected but that it is just an ok OS and not worth the added expense to upgrade all the hardware and retrain the personnel.

Like I felt about 98, when Microsoft is going to quit supporting XP, it should become public domain and free to everyone. This should be something that has been made into law by our government. Then Microsoft would have no choice but to make a better OS as so the masses would want to upgrade instead of being shoveled something like Vista which we will have NO CHOICE but to except.

The writing has been on the wall since 2001 but most folks did not realize the long term effect until now.

Microsoft has slickly positioned itself to shove a new OS down our throat even if it is good or in this case bad and then we the masses DO NOT have any choice about it.

This is a very BAD deal for the public at large. Something like this that has as big an effect on the public at large in the past would have been regulated like a utility company because of these same consiquences. When we had a government who passed laws for the good of the public has dropped the ball on this to allow 1 company to be able to have so much power over the public is a crying shame.

This goes for both parties....
