Repeat Offender

I get several of these mails A DAY! As does my wife. They quote a password I've not used for ages, and I suspect this was collected when pipex/tiscali/talktalk/ was hacked some years ago.

The letter starts like this:

Hi, stranger!

I know the xxxxxxx, this is your password.

As you can see, I logged in with your account. And I wrote you this message from your account.

If you have already changed your password, my malware will be intercepts it every time.

...

He wanted $510.

Another one from a few days ago was boasting about what a genius he us:

Hello!

I'm is very good programmer, known in darkweb as yorker06.

I hacked this mailbox more than 3 months ago,

through it I infected your operating system with a virus (trojan) created by me and have been spying for you a very long time.

I understand it is hard to believe, but I have full access to your account:

You can check it yourself, I'm wrote you from yours account!

Linux Desktop surpasses Windows!

I was recently on a visit to the US with my laptop, running Kubuntu 14.04, and needed to print something in the office I was visiting. In the same office was another visitor, with Win8.1 on his laptop., who also needed to access the printer.

And for the first time ever, in my experience, the Linux system found and installed the network printer, with the correct drivers, on the first attempt, while the windows system failed completely. I had to tell the poor guy all the correct settings which my laptop had auto-discovered so he could hand configure the printer on Windows.

It happened to me, but a boot repair via a system loaded from DVD only took an hour or so, so I didn't bother reporting it.

Not the first time an Ubuntu upgrade has trashed grub, so I kind of expected it.

Indeed. Within about 2 hours of hearing about this bug, my Ubuntu desktop got an automatic fix. Like to a Microsoft respond like that ;)

It isn't stored in two places. The count inside the packet is sent by the originator, and is supposed to say how big the payload is. The other count is the size of the packet actually received - it could differ for example if there was an I/O error of some kind. Having two sources of the same info allows it to be verified, but this was unfortunately missed.

It really is unpleasant to see how many poeple are dissing the folk who provide the whole world with free and usually superb quality software.

How curious. My Huawei YouView box has frozen exactly twice in nearly 11 months, and the Huawei router (not the old white one, the new black one) has an excellent signal - just as good as the TP-Link and Belkins I also use.

I suspect that the hyperspace jump is not accomplished as a single point-to-point jump, but consists of large numbers of short jumps, perhaps perfoming 100 jumps per second. That way, space at the next end point can be monitored more closely, to avoid jumping into an asteroid that wasn't on the maps.

The view out the window is therefore just like a movie. Nothing to explain.

I assume that once we all have transporters installed at home, that the data when digitised is buffered at the far and and verified prior to reconstructing an individual. You really wouldn't want a comms failure when you are only 1/2 way home!

So It seems reasonable that a full human image, including every physical feature and all memory data, would need to be stored in the destination transporter before the reconstruction begins, and this could I'm sure take several patebytes, especially if you have one of the those 6-person transporters in your home.

One but don't use...

I recently purchased a new lap top - so I got win8, so I'm one of the stats, I guess, despite repartitioning almost immediately, installing Ubuntu, and not using win8 since.

Getting an OS free laptp is possible but often more expensive as you can't get it via the major resellers who can undercut the smaller ones, so MS win whatever the consumer actually wants.

TalkTalk TV results in loss of high-speed broadband

The completely utterly uselessly incompetant staff at TalkTalk have managed to convert a request to ADD TalkTalk TV to an existing customer into a request to REMOVE high-speed fibre connection, fail to provide the TV service, and then push the customer to the end of a 3-week queue to re-enable a service they disabled in error, DESPITE being warned several days before the error that it was foreseeable.

Complete utter moronic eejits.

And the CEO herself, Dido Harding, does NOT have the authority to order her team to fix the problem.

Complete F-ing shambles.

So if yout want your broadband reduced from 38 Mbps to 3 Mbps, why not order TalkTalk TV?

I guess this means you'd have to travel for 8 minutes at the speed of light to be able to see the sun "with your own eyes".

My eyes have a nice see-at-a-distance feature, which I thought was common place.

The article forget to mention the absurdity of producing a device that is supposed to be portable and which will inevitably be dropped whilst being slid in and out of pockets with the thinest most breakable glass screen of any device ever released, and then failing to provide any repair service but demanding £130 to provide a complete new unit when any breakage occurs.

The article also forget to mention the total abandonment of the service concept by a retail company that asks people who visit their shops if they have made an apointment!

The article also forget to mention the arrogance of a retail company that gives the title of "genius" to the spotty oiks that man their shops, thus making sure that said oiks are more obnoxious than any normal shop sales assistant, which is of course what they really are.
