EXTREMELY RARE never-seen-alive WHALES found (briefly) alive

Hang on....

"The two whales were discovered in 2010 when they live-stranded and then died on Opape Beach."

What's the date again? Oh yeah it's November 2012.

WHY IS THIS NEWS? This happened 2 years ago, why are you reporting it now like it just happened?

EC: Microsoft didn't honour browser-choice commitment

Re: What's all the fuss about?

that would give them further ammunition to do the same to sony for only offering their browser, and not letting me install firefox on a PS3 (i don't actually own one but my point stands)

Re: Damn right

they probably just have a disk image they pre-created, and just load it up onto the machines as needed. all the software and everything else all at once, so it would never have been picked up anyway. besides i suspect that you'd be frowned upon for using a non-MS product

I don't get this

so what about Apple? or ChromeOS (or whatever the hell it's called)? are they required to give their users a choice of browser? why is MS being singled out for this, when I doubt it's competitors are any better.

and why should it matter anyway? non-technical users won't understand and will probably stick to IE anyway, where as your experienced/power user is going to go for chrome or firefox out of habit anyway, and the fact that no one makes money out of the web browser itself. i just don't get this whole thing, it just shouldn't be an issue

Windows 8 versions will confuse the punters, say OEMs

Alert

hold on there!

except that you cannot buy Windows RT, it's only ever pre-installed on ARM-based equipment, like the currently available version of the Surface

and Tea?

what does this research mean for tea? personally i hate coffee, but i drink tea from a mug so large i need to double-bag it to get a decent cuppa, it's 3-4 regular cups of tea all at once, and i can drink 2-4 of these a day.

am i fooked?

Windows 8 and you – So, what's next?

Windows 8 not the end of the world

Personally I LIKE Windows 8, and what Microsoft are trying to do by using it as a standard on all their platforms.

So yes ModernUI is a bit funny, and not particularly practical on a PC or a laptop (simply due to the lack of touch-input) but I've worked with it. I actually use the elReg's app to get my tech news every morning. It's just down to the fact that the whole idea is new and largely untested. you ever notice how Facebook gets when they implement ANY kind of change? everyone screams about the new feature like it's going to end their lives or something stupid. I got my mum using Win8 on my laptop, and she thinks its BETTER! She reckons it's easier to navigate and to find what she's after, her not being a power user helps there i think, but this is the kind of person that MS needs to be targeting and attracting, because these are the kinds of people who buy Apple and Android tablets.

Windows Store size doubles: Now 0.3% the size of Apple's

fly in the ointment

of course you conveniently forget that:

1) Windows 8 isn't even released to the wdier public yet,

2) the Windows Store is less than 12 months old, while Apple's equivalent is... how old now? 5-6-7 years old?

3) Windows 8 supports legacy applications in desktop mode, and is fully backwards-compatible with previous versions of windows, just like every version since XP. the only Windows devices limited to the contents of the Windows Store are those running Windows RT, so it hardly matters anyway
