Comet - Extended Warranty Repudiation

Comet's Extra Care Standard warranty is not working.

A 32 inch Panasonic TV developed a vertical black line on Saturday. I was advised on Sunday to bring the machine back to Comet, some 10 miles away. This breaches the terms of our Extra Care agreement, a 5 year contract for the Standard plan set up two years ago on purchasing the TV. The Engineer is supposed to visit the house to diagnose the fault, leaving the TV in place until it is repaired or replaced.

I raised this with the Comet helpline yesterday (Monday) who said that the change was on the Administrator's instructions .

I checked with the Warranty Group. The Warranty Group have said that they can do nothing because no instructions have been issued to them so referred me back to Comet.

Comet's helpline 0844 800 9595 kept me on hold for 8 minutes and then seemed to hang up as soon as I mentioned the breach of contract.

Back to the Warranty Group who steered me to the local Comet store, which confirmed that the Administrator has directed that faulty equipment is to be brought in regardless of terms. No replacement will be given whilst the TV is away for an indefinite time and I have grave doubts whether it or its replacement will ever reappear.

Despite assurances on the Comet website that the warranties are run by The Warranty Group and are unaffected the Standard Plan Level is not being honoured. This appears to be a deliberate breach of contract - a repudiation.

Any views?
