When will these politicians stop trying to pretend they care about the public safety. If they really cared, they would print one of these guns themselves and shoot themselves. We would be better off.
Just look at the statistics on the number of unarmed people shot by government officials. So long as government retains the monopoly on violence against others, we will never be safe.
It is just great that they suggest adding money to the media manipulation. So taxpayers bailout news sources that cannot get people to read their garbage? Probably only those media outlets that agree with the "party." I should start a newspaper that prints one copy, says what the state wants it to say and pays me a salary of 1 million euros a year. Since I am losing money, the citizens should bail me out.
Your scenario is illegal in western economies. It may be considered either: shareholder fraud, fiduciary fraud or even insider trading. The free flow of information on price, value, strategy and business arrangements/strategies is an essential part of an efficient market.
On the economics side of this discussion, setting prices and values of assets are central to and efficient business environment. This can only be done on a case by case basis. Economists are generally concerned to national-level statistical aggregation and could not run a business if their lives depended on it.
New York is a place where the mayor likes to control everything. It is illegal to sell a soda larger than 16oz. Drones fly in certain areas (The Bronx) looking inside windows. You can get arrested if aspirin is found in your pocket (categorized as unidentified white substance). The police have been caught on camera doing all manner of heinous acts with no consequences.
This sounds a lot like the WMD debate. We are just looking for an excuse the drop bombs on someone. The cyber attack (maybe) meets kinetic retaliation. First Iran and then the headlines will read "US Govt thinks attack may originate in UK." Then, we can launch planes against the evil UK from Ramsbury.
