Java API judge tells Oracle to suck it up, quit whining about the jury

MrMur

Re: Dear Oracle

Point taken regarding (1) and regarding (2), I was speaking colloquially when I referred to it as code.

MrMur

Dear Oracle

Dear Oracle,

The jurors patiently sat through your legal mudslinging. They put their lives on-hold so you could whine on about 37 lines of code. They took their time to try to return the best decision they could. Now you dare to call them "unreasonable" because they didn't agree with you. A trick tried my SCO, if my memory services.

What little credibility you had left in this case is gone. It is you who are being unreasonable. And disrespectful to the men and women of the jury that will never get those two weeks of their lives back.

Yours,

Pretty much everyone in IT except Oracle.

QEMU may be fro-Xen out after two new bugs emerge

MrMur

Re: What the anonymous coward said

I am sure if someone offered to backport (or pay someone to backport it) the fix to traditional, it would still be accepted, though. Same goes for the development of any missing functionality in xl. My experience of the Xen custodians is that if someone puts forward something with merit and is prepared to write it, then they will include it.

Did a SUPER RARE Sony-Nintendo PlayStation prototype just pop up online? Possibly, maybe

MrMur

Re: I call fake

Upvoted. Apart from the PS logo, I would say it is identical. If you look at the video, it seems like there is a cover missing where the cartridge slot is. But crucially, you can see the recess where such a cover would go. Good find.

What's black, sticky, and has just 8GB of storage?

MrMur

Am pretty sure that I read somewhere that flashing over your own O/S is going to be problematic (= possibly impossible), so those that are planning to buy the Windows version and reflash with Linux might want to check that it is even possible. This isn't just a tiny PC.

Get cracking on STARTTLS says Facebook

MrMur

Re: Hmm

I somewhat disagree, but figured a downvote would be a bit strong. I use STARTTLS on my mail server and its excellent for convenience. I don't expect emails going out to be encrypted, although they might be. It does mean that emails I send that stay on the server are encrypted though (in transit), i.e. to other family members. I asked on my local LUG list how many people had non-tech family or friends using PGP etal. None, Not scientific, but an okay representation, I think.

MrMur

I can't wait for this to go through. Then when Microsoft sells a single Nokia X phone, all the FUD that MS has put up about Linux containing all this MS IP goes away because they've distributed the kernel under the gpl v2. I think.

Beat it, freetards! Dyn to shut down no-cost dynamic DNS next month

MrMur

Re: ZoneEdit

Pretty sure hurricane electric does free dynamic DNS if you have your own domain. I was an EveryDNS user and donor, but didn't get any favours from DynDNS when they bought EveryDNS, so had to jump ship. I came across he.net and my DNS has been rock solid ever since.

123-reg shrugs off customer complaints over stealth domain transfer charges

MrMur

Been gradually moving everything off 123-reg after a cock-up at their end meant I was told I had to pay twice to secure my domain and even though the knew I had already paid and they would refund the first payment some days after. I did get the refund and they gave me 2 years extra free on the domain, but I lost several hours of my time trying to deal with it. Still got a few domains with them, alas. I wish I'd had warning.

Volunteers slam plans to turn Bletchley Park into 'geeky Disneyland'

MrMur

I think the actors were for filming segments of footage for use during the tour, not presenting the tours themselves.

I did the old tour with two 9-yearolds and I can say they got very bored unfortunately. Definitely not suitable for the younger consumer. I enjoyed it but I did feel it was a little slow in places. There was an element of is/is not colossus viewable today which I found a bit confusing. In the end we saw it.

Changes definitely welcome, but being sensible about it is also welcome.

Ubuntu desktop is so 2013... All hail 2014 Ubuntu mobile

MrMur

Personally, I think the reason PC sales have flat-lined is because the requirements of your average home user hasn't changed in years. Surfing, social networking, youtubing, etc... all fine on a 4+ year Laptop. If you are not too bothered about HD content, you can go back even further. The one I use is 2 years old and I have never had it using more than 50% CPU. (Granted it is using a quadcore i7)

Using Ubuntu Desktop, by the way.

Torvalds: Linux devs may 'cry into our lonely beers' at Christmas

MrMur

Re: Eh?

I agree with the first commentator (upvoted). You shouldn't plan to have more than one RC, although you can have as many as you like.

According to wikipedia... "A release candidate (RC) is a beta version with potential to be a final product". If you are planning to have three of them, then numbers 1 & 2 can't be a potentially final product". I am not saying Wikipedia is gospel, but it's my understanding of the term and I would suggest the understanding of the first commentator. If nothing else, the name - "Release Candidate" - should give the game away.

No anon pr0n for you: BT's network-level 'smut' filters will catch proxy servers too

MrMur

Hmmm 8 downvotes. Harsh.

Well, if BT subvert DNS, then I am glad I don't use them and never will.I didn't imagine an ISP would do that.

Shame on them, not shame on me.

MrMur

If it's using DNS, then Ubuntu users from 12.04 onwards won't be "protected" as Ubuntu uses its own local DNS server, as far as I know. Maybe different in later versions.
