BlackBerry CEO: Reports of firm's death 'greatly exaggerated'

Redsyrup

Re: Not 'Greatly Exaggerated'

Regardless of what happens my BB Q10 is still be best phone on the market. No other phone has as good of a keyboard and full Flash and Java support in a mobile browser. Until I get this tri-force of power in another handset I'm staying put.

Hello! Still here! Surface 2! Way better than iPad! says slightly desperate Microsoft

What iSheep fail to realize...

Windows 8.1 will be adopted by Enterprise over the year or two and it's the exact same OS as what's on the Fondleslabs but also running on Desktops and Laptops. This spells doom for iPads in the work place. It's just a matter of time.

Re: Thrown out the baby with the bathwater.

BB 10 is the only smart phone to my knowledge that fully supports Java and Flash. Crucial for older web apps. It's an impressive fact that most laymen gloss over.

Very sad and probably right.

Re: Retire

Are you kidding? 1000 employees and nobody on site? Or one person from the read of your post? Impossible my friend.

Re: Have to agree

Totally agree. Avoiding the cloud is the best way to maintain job security. If you're just another cog in the machine you're easily replaceable. Furthermore who can trust what they can't see or touch?

Rejoice! Sysadmin day is... TODAY. Now get in here and win free stuff

Lunch on the company dime

A nice sit down lunch with the Director of IT is the most I can hope for. Everyone else and their uncle is oblivious.

Microsoft's murder most foul: TechNet is dead

Redsyrup

Thank you Trevor, Great Article.

Killing TechNet will NOT stop piracy. I've seen MSDN ISOs and keys online for as long as I can remember. What will happen next? raise the price on MSDN subs? I've got news for you Microsoft, you're more likely to price MSDN out of reach for the common towns folk before you ever put a dent what pirates can download. At the end of the day pirates will obtain your goods and they'll use stolen credit cards if they must.

TechNet is your best friend for exposing new hearts and minds to your products. TechNet is responsible for creating future crops of Microsoft Diehards. This can't be done with 90 day evals or limited rearms. True fans are created through trust, slow growth/nurturing, bonding with the consumer and honor. A kin to producing a diamond over millions of years of faithful TechNet subscription.

These Diehards go on to become your next wave of corporate insiders. Your direct contacts to the beating hearts of IT Server Rooms and Server Closets the world over. These are your IT foot soldiers who might as well be branded with Microsoft tattoos. We push for your products and massage yearly budgets in order to make your software possible. I'm still committed being gainfully employed and our company may well spring for an MSDN sub but it's the younger generation of IT foot soldier I worry about. The ones who have yet to pick up a keyboard. Loosing them won't loose them to the IT Industry. They'll still grow-up same as the rest of us but they'll grow allegiant to Google, Apple, Amazon, FireFox or Linux. Microsoft's loss is their competitors gain.

Loosing TechNet weakens Microsoft's chances on the difficult road ahead. I'm with Trevor on this. It's hard to watch the decline and foolish decisions of such an important company (in our lives).

A shot in the foot

Without Technet I never would have discovered Microsoft Lync and pushed our firm to adopt it. The program is a revenue generator.

Re: Cracked It

It already exists. It's called an HDMI cable from your PC to TV. Anyone expecting another Siri/Kinect Mind Reading iDevice is sadly mistaken.

Bigger than Twitter: Opera releases rebuilt Chromium-based browser

Redsyrup

As a long time Opera User (since 1999) I've been disappointed they switched their engine to Google's Chromium. I oppose Google's privacy invasive nature and won't use their products, services or frame works.

Last month I switched to Firefox. So long Opera we had a good run. You really were the best browser.

Better or Best?

I love how Apple dumbs down their computer specs. Let's remain brainless for the benefit of their bottom line. It's a Mac after all.

Former Microsoft Windows chief: I was right to kill the Start button

Redsyrup

Is it that hard to move your mouse cursor to the bottom left hand corner of the screen? Like magic you have your Start Button back.

Redsyrup
Go

What many don't understand is the 'Start' Button is still there. It's now a hot point in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. It appears when you move the mouse cursor to that corner. When you click it the 'Start' Menu it takes over the entire screen.

Windows 8 also boots to the 'Start' Menu. After using the product for a few days it makes sense. I think it was a good design choice and I'm a little disappointed they're reverting to the old ways with SP1. I'm hoping we can get Windows 8 deployed at our company before SP1 is released so our users get a chance to enjoy the new UI.

I was following what you were writing until right at the end. A chrome book is not a windows machine. Second I would never trust my company's private/financial data with Google Docs.

Breaking up is hard to do

I'll miss you Opera. We've been together for 10+ years but I will not support the whole-sale departure of privacy at the hands of Google. It's bad enough they've web-crawled and indexed their way to the top. Now they want my web browser? If you need to reach me I'll be with Mozilla..
