Government tips last dollars into NBN

RealFred

We already have retail and wholesale split in Telstra. Guess which half the Government owns 51% in. As of current contracts, there is no service contract between Telstra and NBN. If your service breaks, Telstra and Optus can take their own sweet time in fixing it. Some friends in Armidale waited 6 weeks

nbnTM plans for future backhaul upgrade to FTTN cabinets

You are about to see what real prosecutions of elected officials is with all the union corruption. Trying to tie this all in with News Corps is utter bullshit. It was probably a Labor scheme to assist Fairfax to stream their Stan product.

Re: The missing bit

I worked for a large State government Department who decided that they would purchase large quantities of Osborne computers. The return rate was well above 25% (many of them didn't even boot straight out of the box). We would go onsite to install and have a large number of spares. We eventually insisted on them shipping 25% more units to each site because we couldn't get one of their engineers onsite to fix the broken ones because they didn't have enough engineers. In short, they were a disaster. The only reason they stayed as suppliers was no-one else could supply large numbers of machines in a short period of time.

Australia's PM says data retention laws think of the children

Re: Side note for international viewers

There's none so stupid as those that think they are free.

RealFred

Re: Pathetic

Agenda 21, heard of it? Maybe you need to take off your disaster enhancing glasses and take a look at real data and its interpretation. You also need to look at what's causing the methane bubbling in the Arctic, its plate faults as the plates shift.

There was a 38% chance 2014 was the hottest year on record. From the British met Office

“It is not possible to calculate the global average temperature anomaly with perfect accuracy because the underlying data contain measurement errors and because the measurements do not cover the whole globe. However, it is possible to quantify the accuracy with which we can measure the global temperature and that forms an important part of the creation of the HadCRUT4 data set. The accuracy with which we can measure the global average temperature of 2010 is around one tenth of a degree Celsius. The difference between the median estimates for 1998 and 2010 is around one hundredth of a degree, which is much less than the accuracy with which either value can be calculated. This means that we can’t know for certain – based on this information alone – which was warmer". You need to examin both sides of an argument before you pontificate on it.

Re: Electronic graffiti

You obviously have a comprehension problem. Both the major parties were implicated, Labor actually put them in the detention center in the first place. Have a look at the photos for the detention center, the place is clean and tidy, the kids are being educated and are well fed while they wait for their parents documents to be found and identities verified

RealFred

Re: Side note for international viewers

I don't know why you are complaining about Abbott. When labor were in, they tried the same thing because "won't someone think of the children". Labor are as keen to get this legislation passed as they can then point the finger at the LNP and say "we didn't do it, they did", but they won't repeal anything. There are reasons why all forms of the governments in Australia are keen for this to happen, and its nothing to do with terrorism or child abuse. If this is passed, the Greens know that whatever happens, they will get their wish, because they won't be in a position to make a difference and can happily point the finger at everyone else and say "they did it".

Re: Pathetic

Really, are you that old that you can remember the end of Rome, or are you just relying on someone else's interpretation of what they thought happened.

Perhaps if others didn't fly planes into buildings, try to obliterate other religions and people who don't follow their idea of what an invisible friend is, treat half their population as inferior because they don't have a penis and generally act as dicks to the rest of the world, people might stop mistrusting them

Re: BS

Labor want in on it, afterall it was their baby to start with

RealFred

They did, Telstra ( or the PMG in those days) had metadata that they used for billing. they knew who called who and for how long they spoke. In those days the government owned the telecoms network. They also were able to track letters and parcels if they wanted because everyone sent letters that had the return address on it.

This is how it should have been. Rather than having a monopoly or duopoly with the two carriers not giving a rats arse about their customers, we suddenly have a third company that will create some real competition. I'll bet Telstra's service improved radically in the area and hopefully prices will drop.

Re: More Windows Phone Landfill

No wonder you posted under anon coward. I have a Windows phone, the battery lasts 3 days, I have all the apps I need, the phone has never missed a beat. Pity I can't say the same about my wifes iphone 5 or the Android I had before my current phone. Quite a few people I know are sick of their Android/iphone rubbish and are starting to look for something else. Maybe you should actually look at one and use it for more than 10 seconds before you open your mouth and spew rubbish about something you know nothing about

Re: Google, the new Microsoft @Lost

I guess if you prattle on long enough you can find excuses for Google. The truth is their behaviour was shameful. I hope someone does the same to Google because then you will hear them scream about it and their legions of Google fans will go on about how it is unfair to do it. Me, I really don't care about Android too much.

Tesla confirms Australian launch date

Re: Electronic Voting is more Secure

Also, each ballot paper is initialled by the person handing it to the voter, as another person marks the voters name off. When the ballot is closed all of the papers sorted and returned to the person who handed them out, and they are then counted. there are two people involved in this process. If paper numbers don't match, it is referred to the supervisor immediately

Then why is it I have to still use 3 different browsers to get things done. Each one has its own suckiness and bugs and websites have their own suckiness and bugs. Nothings changed or going to change, except we will still hear moaning from devs about how each browser should follow whichever standard they think is appropriate.

They only recently broke up all of the ICT Departments in schools in NSW. They devolved the teaching of IT to other faculties, to tie it in with current studies. Good grief, this is just shifting the deckchairs on the Titanic.

RealFred

Re: Coding

Perhaps they can start with teaching programmers not to be such arseholes who think that everyone else is a moron. The programmers might learn how to design and code applications so that people can easily use them. Apple programmers do it on a regular basis, how about you give it a try, sport. Antarctic ice at all time high: We have more to learn, says boffin
