Vista and Lotus: Knowing when to let go of a brand

Alan Paice

Truely awful

I used to be a Domino/ Notes Admin. It was truely crap. We needed to get some one in at £1k a day to add a disclaimer to emails.

My users hated it, and so did the CEO. And that was it. the users hate it, IT hate it therefore it is now dead.

No amount of clever sales and marketing will ever get me near any IBM product after that. If you mentioned Lotus in the office there would be uproar.

Thats 100 users, that all tell their mates.. I changed to exchange and not had a moan out of the in 18 months.

Truely terrible product..

Cambridge computing profs 'desperate' for applicants

Alan Paice

Why bother?

Most I.T jobs at blue chip fims don't go to us CompScis any way. Business skills (degree or other wise) is the way to go if you want to get any where in I.T.

Cambridge is one of those places that still believes in pure computer science with a heavy mathematical bias and Dons are warey about change.

Script

Techies in the Navy are pretty good. I met some on HMS Trafalgar while on an acquaint visit.

Its just some media type has written them a script that makes them sounds like mongs! How you we sound if we described our jobs from script.

But saying that the head of the submarine service told us not to bother with university if we was joining as officers.. go figure!

Guild of craftsmen AKA BCS

There are cowboys in every trade. I.T is sadly one of those professions where a little knowledge is dangerous. And in the uk the majority of these people are employed by PC world et al.

I believe the BCS is trying to get I.T Professionals a better rep. Like builders and plumbers we in I.T should be members of a proffesional guild.

IT risk becomes board-level issue

Alan Paice

IT need to sit on boards

Whats a point of explaining to people whos focus is and rightly so on making money for the business. This is the reason why an I.T director needs to sit on the board. Not however just some one who did a MBA but barely knows how to turn on their PC.

I mean Technical managers (may be an MBA?), promoted to the board of directors who know the risks, and the technical solutions to them and not just lots of business and management buzzwords.

If ye deal with the devil

If this guy is tech savvy enough to install Linux then why didn't he just bung back on

windows.. So in summary he is tarded enough to firstly buy from Pc world.. and then doesn't bother to put windows back on.

I advise all my friends, family and clients that if they buy from PC world not to expect support from me or any of my contacts..

Its the only way they will learn...

Dell Crapware

I advise and always have for users to steer clear of Dell. I recently installed a clean copy of XP on my friends Dell. Much to my amazement it was actually quite fast.

May be they should try shipping with an optional extras disc?

But worry not as long as Dell et al continue to do this, the more money I will make undoing it :)

'You're a f**king moron'

Surely Mr Jobs et al does'nt want OBL to own the iPhone?

Well I would think at the price tag for the iPhone, there won't be many bombs detonated with one. And I am sure no self respecting Al-Qaeda would want to get tied in an 18 month contract with AT&T either.

Mr J.. get a sense of humour.
