ADSL - the VoIP killer

dave

@Stuart Reeves

"The idea is to run voice and dat on the SAME cable. That's how you save the money"

If you install a VoIP system you only need one CAT5/6 outlet saving you between £25 - £65 (depending on amount of outlets)

But......

You need to upgrade all of your switches to support QoS and PoE, the phones are more expensive, the actual PBX (in many cases) is more expensive.

Not such a money saver in the, well pretty short term.

Also if your switch dies you lose voice and data. Normally if something breaks in the comms room you can still make and answer phone calls or compose and answer emails. With a new converged system you can do neither!

Can you believe I sell this stuff, I can't.

I want a Blu Ray player

I want a BluRay player in the near future (was waiting to see what happened in the HD-DVD vs BluRay war) So rather than buying a stand alone player I was planning on buying a PS3 to sit alongside my 360.

Hopefully MS will bring out an add on BR drive for the current 360 and a 360 V2 with the drive built in, keeping everyone happy. I would mean I wouldn't have to buy a PS3 for one thing!

UN mandates stability control in trucks - cars to follow

@Paul

ESP (as it's known on my car) is simply the addition of a further ECU and some other electrical gubbins to control the equipment that is already there IIRC, so not much extra weight.

I'm sure ESP in the past has helped out lots of safe drivers driving under the speed limit, for example spilt diesel on a motorway slip road, unexpected mud from tractors on a country road all hazards that can catch out the most careful drivers.

Comparing the abilities of cars with and without ESP it makes quite a big difference, you can turn it off on my car which i'm sure many budding stigs do (i don't) will this new ruling mean there isn't an off button?

Had the same problem with a Latitude D630 which uses a 14.1 panel, 33 days if we wanted the 1440x900 or 3 days for the 1280x800 display.

T1 - E1 - ISDN30e - ISDN2e and so on

ISDN Home Highway and business Highway was binned off a while ago leaving ISDN2e which can be used for data as per the article or two simultaneous voice calls when connected to the right equipment.

We have lots and lots of customers using ISDN2e lines and use ISDN2e for new installs of telephone systems all the time.

T1 is the US version of our ISDN30e or E1 lines which carry up to 30 x 64kb channels.

I can't see BT killing off ISDN for a long, long time as there are too many people using it for voice.
