Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid car review

Thumb Down

Pointless

What is the point in using fossil fuels to generate electricity which is inefficient and then using that to charge a battery which is inefficient. Why not just use the fossil fuel to drive the bloody car?

Pirate Bay moves to the cloud to confound copyright cops

Thumb Up

Yeah

At last I see a useful function for the Cloud.

Guardian's Robin Hood plan: Steal from everyone to give to us

Iain Leadley
WTF?

No chance

If they can't make a business work they want some of my money to help them along? I will be polite, SOD OFF.

All the news has ever done is make people paranoid. Apparantly there's a terrorist, paedophile and mugger on every street corner. I'm sure we would be better off without it.

RBS collapse details revealed: Arrow points to defective part

Iain Leadley
FAIL

Why

Oh why do the UK government bail out a UK bank then let it sack a load of UK people and then replace their skills with skills sourced in another country?

So we are now paying a load more redundancy and then effectivly importing stuff when we need to be exporting more?

British 4G mobile data rollout 'will mean NO TELLY for 2m homes'

Iain Leadley
FAIL

4G? Whats that

Where I live its just GSM, how about they actually get everyone onto 3G first?

As broadband rate increase we don't get anything other than fatter webpages so whats the point anyway.

farewell snowy pictures

Hello big fat lumps of MPEG artifacts.

But at least you get more oppertunities to watch the 57th repeat of the 17th repeat of something that was crap when it came out before I was born.

UK net super-snooping clashes with Euro privacy law - expert

Catch 22

I disagree with the snooping but then I disgree with Europe telling us what we can and can't do even if they are right.

Met Office wants better supercomputer to predict extreme weather

Iain Leadley

Wouldnt trust them to speak their wheight

I use the weather forcast for entertainment purposes.

If you check the forcast for 5 days in the morning then again in the afternoon it has often totally changed. How can they get it that wrong.

The only thing that they seem to predict with any real accuracy is snow.

Researchers propose ‘overclock’ scheme for mobiles

Iain Leadley

Novel suggestion

They could always make the code more efficient.

Microsoft explains bland new Windows logo

Iain Leadley

Why?

Whats the point? If you like Windows you will buy it. If you don't you won't.

It's not as though they are a really small company in a market of hundreds.

It looks crap, wonder how much it cost?

New driver-snooping satnav could push down UK insurance premiums

So if you crash your car because you were looking at the screen to see how safe you were driving will that be OK?

What a load of tosh, driving too close or with bald tyres means driving at half the speed limit and slowly round corners is dangerous.

There should be a chimp icon as this idea came from one.

New life forms?

Hardly, first thing they will do is kill them and chop them up to see how they used to work.

Has Microsoft finally killed off Windows 8 Start button?

Iain Leadley

Why don't they

make windows 8 run as fast as windows 95 does on a modern PC.

Who cares about the user interface, I would just like to be able to move the mouse pointer around the screen without needing 88GB ram and god knows how many octo cored CPUs running at 99GHz.

Do any of you actually understand lithium cells? Obviously not.

Pocket Rocket

I NEVER put any phone or lithium powered device in my front pocket. Lithium cells are like little sticks of TNT. Even if they were safe I still wouldn't as I don't want my nuts microwaved.

Apple gets patent for ‘unlock gesture’

Iain Leadley

I can understand a patent for a touch screen but how can you patent data entry on it? Surely this is no different to patenting the entry of a password on a QWERTY keyboard. Don't tell me they have that one already.

I think I am going to look at patenting the use of toilet paper for uses outside of the obvious.Mind you perhaps I should patent the use of USPTO patents as toilet paper, I think that may prove more lucrative at the moment.

'Mental act' computerisations no longer automatically unpatentable

Iain Leadley

DNA?

I though people were patenting discoveries in DNA? So I have to pay a licence for 5% of me existing.

But this says you can't patent a discovery.

Have I missed something?

Google loses battle for goggle.com

Iain Leadley

What a load of crap. If a domain name is like someone elses, hard cheese. I live at 6a but don't try and take out my neighbours because they live at no 6.

Seeing what all these companies get up to these days is like watching a school playground.

Osborne proffers £150m for mobile not spots

Iain Leadley

How much?

£150m would buy a lot of phone boxes. Or dare I say, hospital beds?

If they must insist on sqandering our tax money why not use it to force operators to share masts.

Mind you, that would require common sense.

Don't bother with that degree, say IT pros

Iain Leadley

Just because you have never heard of Ambulo doen't mean you don't do it (latin for walking by the way). Fancy words don't make a programmer.

I don't have a degree, I certain don't eny those with one. I do envy missing the student lifestyle though.

Eduction tends to remove inovation, rather than do a task in a way you have been taught why not find a better way of doing it?

You may sense Degree Envy, I sense degree snobery.

I have seen lots of code, Degree written code usually works but is generally slower and fatter.

Iain Leadley

In my experience it is people with degrees that want to employ people with degrees. It is like a little club.

A degree just means you could remember stuff when you had to answer questions on a paper, whether they were real world problems is another thing.

I have worked in a uni and out of one. Have seen, worked with and interviewed folks with and without degrees and as far as techy subjects are concerned the people who are worth having didn't need the degree as they were obviously smart and switched on people in the first place.

A degree may teach you something but in the 3 years a degree takes you can get a shed load of usefull experience and learn what you need not what someone else thinks you may need.

Brussels: Old-school lightbulbs to be gone by 2012

Iain Leadley

Mad men

Low energy bulbs do not work well when cold as well as being full of mercury vapour.

LEDs were a possible alternative but LEDs are manufactured using gallium arsenide and with ROHS 2 they want to ban that.

Filament bulbs are to be got rid off.

Candles cause pollution.

We are only left with the sun and moon.

Its about time the world was run by Engineers but sadly any Engineer who would make a good leader or similar would never be caught dead in such a position as the two are mutually exclusive. So sadly we are all doomed to be run by idiots.

UK anti-piracy group gets new flag waver

FAST buck

Funny really that the industry has something to protect them from being ripped off but the consumers don't. You pay a load of cash for software thats full of bugs and can do nothing about it. You can of course always wait for version 56 of the software and upgrade to that.

Boy racer cuffed for 140mph YouTube jaunt

Iain Leadley

Speed Kills?

Speed makes an accident worse but personally I think tail gating is way worse. 50mph on a motorway is safe but not 15 foot behind the car in front. From what I recall don't most accidents happen on slow roads not fast roads?

Isn't the most dangerouse part of a motorway the hard shoulder?

Speeding is easy to prove, easy to catch, brings revenue and makes solved crime rates soar. A camera is cheaper than an officer, can't phone in sick. Sadly the car owner is an easy target for everything even taxes.
